My son and I tried this with exactly what is shown and it doesnt work

Update: The wire we purchased was from an arts and crafts store, which turns out to not be real copper wire. I found a piece of electrical wire in the basement and we were able to get it to work. Check to make sure your using actual copper wire folks.

Here’s a tip have a few batteries on hand the reason is once you finally get it to work the battery gets hot quick because you’re essentially taking power straight to ground so keep that in mind also helps to sand down the poles of the battery and the contact points of the wire I got it to work

Make a dimple on the top of the battery so it stops falling off.

CA glue a 1/4 in. length piece of small diam. plastic soda straw on top positive. It will NOT fall off. I did...works great. Grandkids amazed.

Don’t puncture it, but try to indent the positive side with a nail so it can be stable. I usually make an indent and a sharp, small point in the wire.

Does this usage make the magnet lose polarity faster?

Put the battery upside down and the coil won't fall easily.

I tried this and it didn’t work! And yes I stripped the plastic off electrical copper wire to make sure it was real copper! 😭
