Should I Use Streamlabs OBS For Streaming?

Streamlabs OBS is incredibly beginner-focused, you might look at the user interface and say it is confusing but I promise you this is so much simpler for a beginner to get set up, It comes with all the tools you’ll need to start streaming, literally built into it.

It comes with a Chatbox to monitor your chat, event queue to monitor followers, subs, etc. If you want to add alerts? Just add an Alert box widget, if you want to have your chat on screen? You can add a chat box widget easily! You do not need to install a single plugin to get up and running.

Streamlabs OBS is a fantastic program for beginners and experienced streamers looking to start streaming quickly and easily.

Should I Use Streamlabs OBS Or OBS For Streaming?

If you are a beginner or you aren’t looking to get incredibly technical with your streams, or you want to get up and running quickly with everything in the same place then install and use Streamlabs OBS OR use StreamElements OBS.live because both will get you set up instantly if you want to get custom and create advanced technical aspects to add to your stream go with OBS Studio because it is more customizable, it has more plugin support and is more stable.

How Do You Import .Overlay Files Into OBS? Studio

OBS also lacks an easy way to install overlays, BUT if you have a .overlay you can install that into Streamlabs OBS, and then open both programs.

From there, go to OBS, click Scene Collection, select import, OBS will either pull up all your overlays but IF IT DOESN’T, you can manually go to where SLOBs is default installing overlays, the default folder structure is below, once selected it will bring up all your overlays, and you can select which to import into OBS.

Default SLOBS location for scenes is;

C:\Users[USERNAME]\AppData\Roaming\slobs-client\SceneCollections

Right now I'm all set up on Streamlabs, but I might starts slowly moving over to OBS if it has that much customization. As a newer streamer, the customization was a little overwhelming at first. Seeing how it all goes together on SLOBS though has helped me understand what everything means a little better.

Obs and slobs are actually two seperate entities and slobs just copied obs so I say support the og so any update that obs gets “first” slobs actually just copies

I greatly appreciate your video man. I'm struggling horribly. I am not super tech-savvy, but I know how to make my computer work. What frustrates me is that despite knowing those things... despite knowing how to build a computer from the ground up (I know, hardware, not software) I struggle with this. I got used to OBS. But I still didn't know what the hell I was really doing. A friend put me on to StreamLabs and... honestly, it just muddied my waters.

I like your ultimate conclusion: pick what works for you. That being said, despite my tech knowhow, I cannot for the life of me seem to get a decently working stream/recording. Maybe I am just too hard on myself, but I don't want my video to sound like it was made in a gymnasium. I've gotten a better mic, but now I am learning a new OS. Apparently one cannot simply "alt-tab" to desktop anymore and you need the magic code to do such a thing. Windows D or something like that. But I tell you, all I want man... is to be able to just do a thing, record it, and have it sound to a viewer as it sounded to me. Simple. I'll stick with OBS. Bells and whistles are fine, but I don't need them.

I use OBS because StreamLabs didn't exist when I used to record videos for YouTube before my son was born. So it was familiar to me, once I starting looking into StreamLabs OBS vs OBS, I decided to stick to OBS because I like playing around with a lot of the tech that Nutty has on display.

But I have a small secret, after watching Nutty for 3 months, and you for 3 weeks, if you are a new streamer, your channel will help out more and your wrap-up advice is exactly why. Three weeks ago I was at 8 average viewers (30-day average) and making steady progress. I then started to watch your videos and started testing your advice (I was already doing some of it, but I focused more on the community aspect after watching your videos). I have left the techy stuff aside now, I have rocked up past 11 average viewers, with a lot of new regulars every day. Last night I averaged 19.2 viewers :o!!! Your advice is spot on, it doesn't matter if everyone is having fun and your stream is good quality.

I started using OBS and then switched to SLOBS. I like SLOBS better because it's so much easier to set everything up. And I don't use fancy animated overlays and alerts, so it works just fine for my custom, static ones. I may redownload OBS specifically to stream Overwatch with, as that's the only game I have issues with streaming on SLOBS, so I just wanna test and see if it runs better in OBS. Otherwise, my opinion is also to just use whichever one you're more comfortable with and that suits your needs. Who cares what everyone else is using, since everyone's needs are unique.

Now... What's this about installing Stream Elements into OBS? I have a separate app from SE for the alerts, I didn't know you could install it directly into OBS?? I need a video about this 😅

I use Streamlabs prime because I am a total newb and if you have prime they have a 24/7 support chat messenger that’s basically an instant response and they are so helpful and never make me feel dumb. It’s worth the few bucks a month to have the help. They save my butt all the time.
