Developing Falsetto Vs. Head Voice Vs. Mix (What REALLY Matters, and What Doesn't)

There is a lot thrown around regarding these terms. It's also a hot point of discussion among vocalists. In this lesson, I show you how to tell what 'kind of voice' you're using, but I also make the case that it matters more how you learn to use all your 'voices' as ONE voice. Learn how to use different resonances together for a seamless, artistic and emotionally connected singing voice!

This Video is your masterpiece. That’s the most comprehensive precise depiction of the main work tools of producing sound with the human voice I have found so far on the whole internet. The go- to source for explaining how it actually works, the blends in between, everything. I’m in awe

As Ken Tamplin said, what makes a vocal coach good is the ability to demonstrate what they're saying. This is an awesome video

Chris, stop making such good tutorials - you're making other vocal coaches look bad.

I've been singing for 8 years, never took any formal lessons (no money) and while I've made a lot of progress over the years, it was always through online vocal coaches and tutorials, and it wasn't until about year 7 that I realized I had been doing a GREAT MANY things wrong, and that's when I discovered that I had no idea what it was supposed to FEEL like when you sing correctly. The feeling, in your throat, in your stomach, your chest, is so unique that if you haven't felt it before it's incredibly difficult to know if you've got it right. When there's no one there to tell you "yes, THAT'S right, " you have no real point of reference. Well, you've managed to create a set of lessons that convey your message so well through the medium that is the internet, that in simply 3-4 of your videos I was finally able to figure out what it was meant to feel like when you sing correctly, and since then, in just the last 3 weeks, I've made almost as much progress as in my last 8 years combined. So thank you immensely, and I will most certainly be checking out each and every one of your lessons!

"Don't worry about what it's called...." is what this whole video is about. For me it really break the rigidly learned rules that I had around the upper registers. Thank you! You just gave me permission to "play" with my voice by changing the variables of support, air flow and compression. Thank you for opening up my vocal world. I have no real words to express how much this blew my mind. Thank you. As Heir said below: this video is your masterpiece. Bravo.

Damn I wish we have a soundproof room in our house here it's embarrassing that my neighbors can hear me screeching and shouting

Wow, hadn't heard your softer side of singing, the more melodic instead of hard rock scream type. I really like it. Beautiful voice
Chris.

Holy crap! I've been singing for years and always struggled singing in that A4ish break. I just had this gap in my range from a few cents flat of A4 to about B4 before I switched into Rob Halford Painkiller voice at C5. Unfortunately, Rock uses those three inaccessible notes all the time. The exercise in the video was the first time I've been able to repeatedly hit those notes! I'm going to have to practice this a bit more. You're onto something here! This actually works!

I've only just felt the differences between a falsetto, head tone, and a chesty mix, not having any vocal training at all, but this video helped me see correlations between the three and how they intersect. This is a HUGE leap from all the practice i've been doing alone! Thanks so much for this!

THIS. BLEW. MY. MIND.

I've watched thousands of videos and read twice as many explanations of how to develop mixed voice. But only THIS video really helped me develop it. Thank you so much, sir!

This was probably one of the most insightful videos about singing technique I’ve ever seen. You created a fantastic way to show people how possible it actually is to get from “I’ll never be a great singer” to “I can learn to sing anything well enough for the effort to be worth it !”

Falsetto + Closure = Mickey Mouse.... Falsetto + Light Closure = Michael Jackson's speaking voice

Dude. When I first started experimenting with higher notes, I was so confused about falsetto vs head voice. This is a great explanation man. You rock buddy. Keep cranking out these videos!

Chris literally talks in a mixed voice for most of his videos. That would definitely help his ability to produce sound through that area. Similar to Ariana Grandes character in Victorious. She spoke in that character voice for all those episodes, so no doubt that helped make her mixed voice very easy to access.
