There is so much conflicting and outdated advice on weight loss and calories in and out. Although some of this advice may initially lead to weight loss, it does not always result in long-term weight loss, sustainable habits, and overall health. Today’s guest is here to break down the research, myths, and advice to help us navigate what actually works in the realm of weight loss and what can be disregarded.

Today on The Dhru Purohit Show, Dhru sits down with Dr. Morgan Nolte to discuss why weight gain and insulin resistance have become more prevalent and what we can do to change our relationship with insulin and ultimately maintain ideal weight. Dr. Nolte shares her four pillars of a low insulin lifestyle and the toxic traits that can damage our mindset and sabotage goals. Dr. Nolte also explains how insulin resistance changes as we age and how factors like optimal fiber, quality sleep, stress reduction, and strength training can transform our relationship with insulin.

Dr. Morgan Nolte is a board-certified clinical specialist in geriatric physical therapy. She recognized a need for preventative education and care that focuses on reversing risk factors instead of just treating symptoms. That led her to focus on developing online courses and coaching programs that help adults reverse insulin resistance for long-term weight loss and disease prevention.

In this episode, Dhru and Dr. Nolte dive into:
-Why unwanted weight gain and insulin resistance have become the norm
-Aging and how that changes our relationship with insulin
-How calories drive eating behavior
-Tips for keeping the weight off
-Sustainability by adding in rather than removing
-Dr. Nolte’s tips for navigating conflicting advice
-Breaking down carbohydrates
-Optimal fiber levels
-Four pillars to a low insulin lifestyle
-Toxic traits that damage mindset
-The impact of sleep on your appetite
-Strength training and stress management for optimal insulin levels
-START: Wellness vision statement
-Understanding the why behind your goals and what actions you are taking
-Dr. Nolte’s why

I am not diabetic but at age 67 but I realized I had central obesity, higher BP, weight gain, and I was probably insulin resistant. YIKES. I purchased the CGM and boy did I learn what spiked my BG. That is the beauty of self-motivation and an education that is personal. I self-regulate now and graph the improvement in the lower Dawn Phenomenon readings, my average daily BG, my gradual weight loss, and know the foods that I want to avoid. It is fun, and easy to hold my Smart Phone over the button on my arm and check my pre-meal and post meal results effects of exercise, and even times of stress, like when I slept poorly or not at all. Some foods will affect my BG even into the next day. I can adjust my diet and see the healthy results. But, kudos, I can now eat an avocado, nuts, and other foods without calorie guilt. Note: blood glucose will be a little different as the CGM test the inter-cellular glucose, which comes secondary from the blood. I did go on a high fiber diet in the past and my weight melted off, but it did not correct my real issue of the metabolic syndrome. Thank you for such a well presented, well informed, and practical implementation for post-menopausal women. I also appreciate the high fiber food list. P.S. Why do I have to have a Rx from my doctor when I am paying out-of-pocket, and I am just applying a button on my arm?! Kinda silly.

She mentioned liposuction. When people get liposuction, they are more likely to get insulin resistance because they have less fat cells to fill. Their personal fat threshold is now lower. I’d love to be on your show to help educate your audience properly 💪

Wow! This information is amazing n you are both amazing for presenting this to us! I never enjoyed the caring company of any of my 2 grandmas when they were alive or much support from my parents for that matter, my own mom was distant to say the least.
I grew up to have many and diverse, difficult issues and disorders. After 55 I'm still trying to figure things n " me" out. This kind of podcast helps me a lot. Thank you so much

The theory of calories is wrong, it originated in the 1800s from the analogy of a train burning coal to produce heat and movement. However, applying this concept to the human body is incorrect. Metabolism and health are not governed by the maths of calories. Drinking 1000 calories of coke has negative effects, while 1000 calories of broccoli (which is a lot) are beneficial. The body is not a closed system like a boiler, but interacts with the environment. Therefore, the calories of different foods cannot be compared equally. The emphasis on calories is fallacious; physics and mathematics do not determine metabolism or health.

Thank you Dhru for another great podcast! As always you ask such helpful questions of your guest and provide your own input, etc. regardless of any possible haterade...Lol! Awesome terminology! I was especially interested in the intermittent fasting part. Dr. Nolte provided alot of very uselful education on that topic! I still wonder though how to do IF with non-diabetes hypoglycemia that kicks in at around the 14 hour mark. Also how to handle stomach acid that comes up during IF.
