Wouldn't the Adeptus Custodes and Adeptus Astartes be just as old as the Adeptus Mechanicus as far as out-dating the Imperium? The Custodes and Astates were both there before the Emperor set out from Terra to visit Mars and the Solar reclamation.

Just from the idea of if I were part of the Mechanicum, I don’t think “shiny new tech” would lead me to betrayal. Anything Horus could offer would NOT be new, but unspeakably old, and likely created by ignorant heathen meatbags who knew not the Omnissiah’s light. I’d much rather trust in the guidance of the Machine God to advance technology on my own, rather than basing my work on what has already been done. Also, with the possible exception of Tzeentch, I doubt I would find the gods of chaos all that appealing. Hunger for knowledge might lead me to the service of the Architect of Fate, but Khorne’s bloodlust, Nurgle’s decay and Slaanesh’s murderboning are all embodiments of the revolting weaknesses inherent in flesh. As one who follows a god of technology, Chaos would at best seem counter-productive and at worst utterly disgusting.

i have a theory, well it's not really a theory, it's trying to figure out what the creaters want, so I think I got it.
it's a plot twist, it has to do with the warp, the warp is always the key, grim dark hinted at it with the dragon.
