US President-elect Donald Trump has branded support for the suspect in the murder of a health insurance company executive “a sickness”.

Luigi Mangione allegedly shot UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson in the back as he was walking in New York.

Despite his arrest, the 26-year-old suspect has attracted significant numbers of online admirers.

“That was a terrible thing, it was cold-blooded, just a cold-blooded, horrible killing and how people can like this guy is – that’s a sickness actually,” Mr Trump said.
