THIS happened to my son when he was a barely a toddler. I was 15 years old. I still remember the guilt and fear I felt seeing him in the hospital. I was a kid myself and this memory still brings chills over me.

I once accidentally swallowed one of these when I was around 10. Luckily all I got was some mild vomiting, but I'm aware it could've been much, much worse

I had to be hospitalized as a kid and the younger boy in the room next to me ate one of those batteries but managed to swallow it. They removed it fast but not before it basically melted through some tissue in his gut necessitating like three more surgeries. The way his parents talked to mine about it made it sound like they didn’t think he’d be leaving the hospital alive. Always store those batteries out of reach of kids or pets or you’ll pay the worst price.

At a hospital stay a nurse told me about a young girl they treated who had swallowed one of those button cells. Poor girl had to have reconstructive throat surgery and had to be fed through a tube for 6 months. Even breathing was incredibly painful. Hope she is doing well now.

My son ingested one of these and I took him to the ER where he stayed overnight for observation. But he was fine, as the battery didn’t get lodged in his throat which could have caused his airway to close or become blocked and thus he could have stopped breathing. The docs were WAY MORE concerned with the battery blocking his airway, not the possibility of harm due to a chemical reaction on the battery’s part. They said this is very rare and kids put batteries in their mouths all the time with not even so much as a jolt felt from such a thing. I ran this same experiment and nothing, not even a slight degree of color formation occurred on the lunch meat. In the end my son just pooped out the battery three days later and he’s still completely fine, three years later.

My 2 year old swallowed a button battery. Since it was small enough not to get stuck, she was given honey to drink (it coats the battery to keep it from burning the stomach lining), and we were told to wait 2 days for her to poop it out. Thankfully, there was no permanent damage.

My youngest brother ate two, not just one, TWO small button batteries. He was fine, they passed through his digestion and he had zero harm done. Was a very scary ordeal
