God's word is everlasting. That's why science actually has to catch up to the Bible.

Here's just one example!

Thank you for sharing your perspective, but I see some major issues with the idea that the Earth is only 6, 000 to 8, 000 years old and that God "stretched" light to make the universe look older. Are you saying that all the stars and galaxies were once really close, and then God stretched them out so we see them as billions of light years away? If that’s the case, how could the light from those stars get to us without breaking the speed limit of the universe? According to Albert Einstein, nothing can travel faster than light, so it just doesn't add up.

This idea of "stretching" sounds a lot like the Big Bang theory, which says that the universe has been expanding since it began. But here's the crucial difference: the Big Bang theory has strong evidence behind it, like the cosmic microwave background radiation and observations of how galaxies are moving away from us. These things tell us that the universe is actually about 13.8 billion years old. On the other hand, the idea of a young Earth doesn't have that sort of scientific support and contradicts a lot of research in geology and astronomy.

Also, the term "stretched" implies some kind of force or pressure keeping the universe in check. If the universe was just stretched once and stopped, we wouldn’t see the active expansion happening right now, which scientists have proven by looking at distant galaxies. Those galaxies are actually moving away from us faster and faster, which suggests that something is pushing or pulling them apart. It turns out the universe is still changing and growing, which complicates the idea that it was simply "stretched" in the past.

Additionally, I think about the idea of a firmament mentioned in Genesis, implying a boundary around our world. While that’s an interesting thought, the universe doesn’t have these limits we once imagined. The observable universe is about 93 billion light years across, which challenges older views and opens up our understanding of how vast and intricate the cosmos really is.

Lastly, it’s important to note that religious texts don't say that God is actively stretching the universe now. They don't describe it as an ongoing process. What we see in the universe today is an unfolding story backed by the laws of physics instead of merely a divine act from thousands of years ago. Stay critical, my fellow apes ❤!

The way i make sense of the obvious mistakes of the old testament as a christian is, that genesis uses a lot of hyperbole and metaphor to tell a story thats easy to digest. It's possible it wasnt meant to be scientific at all. The bible was partly inspired by god, written by human beings hundreds of years ago. A couple mistakes doesnt completely discredit the bible as a source of information. Its still quite impressive how much the bible gets right about science and history despite all the things it gets wrong. It's not like the bible was some holy book sent down from the heavens by god. It's a series of historical documents from people who wrote about god's word. You should take the bible with a grain of salt as you would with any historical documents from a certain time period, as humans can give their own commentary on a historical event or person that can give a twisted view on history
