Jake (me) ain’t afraid of no ghost (but I actually am) as he finds out if you could survive being crushed by a giant marshmallow creature, wearing a portable nuclear accelerator on your back, and the potential cataclysmic reaction of crossing proton streams…while preventing the end of life as we know it on Earth.

0:00 Introduction
1:32 Proton Packs
5:28 Marshmallow Giant
8:00 Crossing Streams
11:06 Molten Marshmallow
12:25 Coming Soon

ADDITIONAL LEARNING

● Cyclotrons and nuclear accelerators:

● Ground reaction force (i.e. foot pressure):

● Square cube law:

● Burn damage

It's here! The next episode of "Could You Survive the Movies"! Quick note: the last 3 episodes of the show will be out starting Dec. 16th for FREE. It'll be the same schedule; an episode and BTS for free every Monday starting on the 16th. I really hope you're enjoying the series so far! One little bit of trivia is that I wanted to shoot every episode in the aspect ratio the original film was shot in. So this one is in anamorphic which is why the frame is more narrow than a usual YouTube video. Ok, enjoy the show!

Sorry to assume, but I feel like this is Jake's dream project and it makes me happy to think how thrilled he is to see it completed.

THANK YOU for involving Captain D in this series. His is the greatest (and proportionately, LEAST known) youtube creator. I hope he gets a big bump in viewership from all these collaborations. he deserves it.

Never thought I'd see the glamorous set of Captain Disillusion in 2.39:1.

10:44 I was so much expecting beams to be just 35cm long when they became visible :-)

Kill a giant marshmellow man, end up recreating the Boston Molasses Flood of 1919.

Vsauce, I'm going to guess that Captain D did pretty much all the effects.

Kevin could defeat any of the ghosts with logical paradoxes and math memes

Small detail in this brilliant episode: I absolutely LOVE that you added film grain to match the rough film stock in the original movie. Little details like that are AMAZING!

Little nitpick about the proton packs: for accelerators 5MeV refers to the energy per particle, so a single proton hitting you would impart that amount of energy (enough to induce a nuclear reaction in a single atom). The total energy of the beam is that energy multiplied by the number of particles (or beam current / beam intensity). When you cross the streams it's the number of particles that grows, not the particle energy, so the beam would still be 5MeV, but at a higher intensity.
Also you mention in the space of a few seconds that the protons would travel about 30cm, and that you can't see the beam. In fact the reason they would only travel a short distance in air is that they lose all their energy ionizing the air. Ions emit light when they recombine, so depending on the beam intensity you could see a (probably blue) glow.
