If the connections within our brain’s default mode network (DMN) weaken, we can become detached from our inner self, affecting our sense of identity, self-awareness, and emotional processing. The DMN is a network of brain regions active when we are at rest, daydreaming, reflecting, or thinking about ourselves and our experiences. It plays a crucial role in introspection, memory, and the way we perceive our inner thoughts and emotions.

When connections within the DMN are disrupted or weakened—due to stress, mental health conditions, or even certain neurological disorders—our ability to engage in self-reflection can diminish. This may lead to feelings of emptiness, disconnection, or a lack of clarity about who we are. People might find it harder to relate to their past experiences, understand their emotions, or maintain a coherent sense of self.

A healthy DMN helps us integrate our thoughts, memories, and emotions, creating a stable and continuous sense of identity. If this network is not functioning well, it can impact everything from personal decision-making to how we relate to others, often leading to a sense of detachment from our inner life. Reconnecting with the DMN through mindfulness, therapy, or self-reflection can help restore this vital link to our inner selves.

I believe that disconnect has helped people with debilitating PTSD process the trauma. Which makes sense to me. It sounds like the disconnect allows you to look at the problem through a window rather than re-experiencing it.

I have cptsd audhd and the one time I did just a little mushroom I saw the most beautiful scenes. The trees held wisdom and my mirror told me I was beautiful despite the abuse I had suffered. It was literally a turning point.

i took some and fell asleep, fairly uncommon, this allowed the lucid images and interactions to become even more lucid and intense. had a great time, met a sea witch who created all humans and was beefing with poseidon. when i left the well i saw men dancing on the walls with trombones, trumpets, etc. then when i was really awake and coming down, i began to cry because "this beautiful experience is ending".

During my first trip in college I realized that I had lead a scrubby little life up to that point and that if I died it would be inconsequential and that all my negative deeds would be discovered by my loved ones after my death, painting me as the bad person i was. A new man was born that night. 20 years later, he's thriving.

When I was going through severe depression, microdosing on mushrooms was like a mental, local anaesthetic. It enabled me to think about things without having to feel them.

During one time taking mushrooms I just started crying. I had no idea why but I couldn’t stop…for hours. Like I want upset about anything, but the crying just kept coming and I couldn’t stop. Another time, I just laughed and laughed for hours. So this makes a lot of sense to me. I only did it a few times in college but it always triggered extreme emotional responses lol

Your body thinks its dying, you start digging through your subconscious looking for a way out and your brain is not making proper connections so your brain digs deep in its recesses and will often go to that thing that haunts you most but you dare not acknowledge normally because its so daunting... people call this a "bad trip" but it's just extremely difficult because you are dealing with the things you are too scared to acknowledge normally...this is why people report a better outlook on life after because in your head you faced your demons and lived.

Psilocybin is AMAZING for treating DID! I achieved full integration using CBT in combination with Psilocybin and I got my life back. I am one, whole, healed human being because of the addition of magic mushrooms to my existing therapy routine. It is a life saver and everybody suffering DID should have this opportunity to regain their sanity and sense of integrated self.

Yes it connects the darkness and the light and it leads to a profoundly sad discovery - when u finally see it and know that the height of your joy has only ever been as intense as the deepness of your suffering and in that very deep level of connecting dualisms u see clearly that all of it is necessary for growth then u stop trying to control what you can’t and trust the process and the futile grasping for control & hyper-vigilance just become a waste of time and you know this now so utterly that it’s a sadness and a freedom and a loss of self and grasping like a death and birth together 🤷‍♀️

I realized that those who are heavily identified with the mind are the ones who experience bad trips. Once you realize you are NOT your thoughts, the bad trips become a bit less scary. We are all aware of our senses and thoughts but we aren’t our senses and thoughts. Mushrooms lift the veil and it could be terrifying if not prepared. Mushrooms bring up a lot of suppressed emotions we are told are bad or negative due to societal norms. It all comes to the surface because the egoic self drops so there is no filter. You feel everything intensely and raw.

That "voice" it disconnects from your emotions is the ego. When your ego has fallen away, all kindsof things become clear.

Ya know I had an extremely traumatic childhood and have ZERO interest in reconnecting with nightmarish states in my brain. The years of abuse channeled my brain into horrible nightmares for 50 years. Tho I had one last week I generally don’t any more. But I had them dozens of times in a week. So not only did I experience the worst parenting- I nightly experienced my own death and the deaths of others or weird things growing from bodies or on me or fields of carcasses and gross animals tortured etc.
The mind holds all kinds of possibilities and I have been there already. even had an out of body experience after being beaten, kicked and stomped unconscious. I have had near starvation and malnutrition so I know what that does to it too. I can hallucinate while awake if stressed enough. I can do lucid dreaming. I feel pain and it comes into my dream. I wish there were a way to dial back the CPTSD warning bells and some remaining insecurities but other than that- I am pretty good . Am sane fully and grounded in reality. Will have worst case scenario thinking forever… but that’s a safety perk too!

I remember taking some in college, and when I felt them wearing off, I became inconsolable because I had never felt that happy in my life, and I didn't want the feeling to disappear. It makes sense since I have ADHD and depression. I guess I need to disconnect from my inner voice

I contribute being alive and sober due to mushrooms believe it or not. It helps you understand your deep seated emotions and memories while giving distance at the same time. Legalize them for veterans, survivors of crimes and the dying. It’s like a key to understanding life and yourself if done with the proper intention. ❤

I recently found out that a very small percentage of humans do not have true self awareness and should refrain from engaging these activities since it will be a “bad trip”.

Hallucinogens can bring up underlining mental issues, please be aware of this before partaking. Yes they have great "healing attributes" but if you're not in a good place mentally or just have some underlining issues, they will forever effect your life horribly. Just be safe people PLEASE
