Why the remake?

The original Why Nobody Plays The Egyptian Gods video propelled my channel at a crucial time and I wouldn't be here without it.

...but it's also a video posted by a very different Dzeeff haha

It was made by a much smaller Dzeeff channel on a bad microphone in a dorm room and I had a different, more jaded outlook on card discussions. It doesn't even have background music! While I know a lot of people loved it, to me it's pretty difficult to sit through and I've wanted to fix it for years.

MANY creators are embarrassed by their most viewed video and I understand that completely

I know not everyone will see it is a "necessary" remake but I think the videos are quiet different in structure, delivery, and quality.

I love how most of Ra's support is just a patch to fix what they broke. I'll still never get over how they took a card based on Ra, who dies and resurrects, the Phoenix, which when it dies, it's then reborn again, and a card that Marik exclusively summoned from the Graveyard; and made it so you cannot Special Summon it.

Fun fact: Obelisk was actually playable in Resonators back when they were Meta in Duel Links, since Resonators could summon 3 bodies without using a normal summon and non targetable meatshields were hard to deal with back then.

The DIVINE attribute should be treated like keyword abilities from Magic: the Gathering: "Monsters with the DIVINE attribute cannot be Targeted or Destroyed by Card effects. When a DIVINE monster is summoned, cards or effects cannot be activated. A DIVINE monsters summoning cannot be negated." That way, it would save on card text.

Divine Beasts should have inherit protection. Even their normal effects got nerfed to the ground, Slifer not even affecting defense position monsters for example.

One of my favorite things about Yu-Gi-Oh was when someoen did an honest competitive analysis and concluded that if the Egyptian Gods (as in, the 3 cards we have today) were actually released during the DM era, Obelisk would have been meta-defining, Slifer would have been strong but not unbeatable, and The Winged Dragon of Ra would still be terrible.

I really wanna see extra deck retrains of the egyptian gods just because I think the naming potential would be great:

I love how Ra's support just tries to give him back his anime effects. But I think if the deck could search mound of the bound creator they would have some easier time for god protection.

I find it funny that they nerf the God cards than kept releasing OP cards and realised "Hey we need to give the gods support to keep up with the times".

I think it might be interesting if there was a extra deck card that could use the egyptian gods as discard fodder to come out and then give some kind of path to bringing them out.

My favorite Sliffer combo as a kid was summoning it and then activating the trap cards Light of Intervention and final attack order.

Perhaps the compromise is to re-train the Egyptian Gods as Pendulum monsters? That way you can maintain their main deck presence like the originals, and give them easier access once summoned initially? Pendulum summoning would also be a nice way to off set Slifer and Obelisk sending themselves to the graveyard after each turn.

Good video. I do want to mention though that Obelisk has gotten some pretty nice cards to support it. They aren't very good for Modern Play, but Fist of Fate, Ruin Breaking God, and Soul Energy Max are still very good cards.

Their effects:

Fist of Fate
This card's activation and effect cannot be negated. If you control a monster whose original name is "Obelisk the Tormentor": Negate the effects of 1 Effect Monster your opponent controls, and if you do, destroy it, and if you do that, for the rest of this turn, the effects of that monster are negated, as well as the activated effects and effects on the field of monsters with the same original name, then, if you activated this card during your Main Phase, you can apply this effect.
● Destroy all Spells and Traps your opponent controls.
You can only activate 1 "Fist of Fate" per turn.

Ruin Breaking God
The activation of this card, or its effects, cannot be negated, nor can its effects be negated. Special Summon 1 "Obelisk the Tormentor" from your hand or GY, and if you do, it is unaffected by your opponent's card effects this turn. If you Tribute 2 or more monsters you control at the same time to activate your card or effect, while you control "Obelisk the Tormentor": You can banish this card from your GY; banish all monsters in your opponent's GY, and if you do, inflict 500 damage to your opponent for each. You can only use each effect of "The Breaking Ruin God" once per turn.

Soul Energy Max
If you control "Obelisk the Tormentor" whose original Attribute is DIVINE in your Monster Zone: Tribute 2 other face-up monsters; destroy as many monsters your opponent controls as possible, and if you do, inflict 4000 damage to your opponent. During the Main or Battle Phase: You can banish this card from your GY; add 1 "Obelisk the Tormentor" from your Deck or GY to your hand, then immediately after this effect resolves, you can Normal Summon 1 "Obelisk the Tormentor". You can only use each effect of "Soul Energy MAX!!!" once per turn.

The god cards need support that lets you get them out with one card while acuring advantage. Something like their own version of Boss Stage which searches a god card on activation and fills your board with tokens every turn to tribute for them but locks you into only being able to summon divine beast monsters is the kind of power level that you'd need to consider playing them. And even then I think you'd need a lot more support.

I played Obelisk in a Floow deck once. They were worried about Snowl, but surrendered after soul crossing
