when i had this mission, i actually killed the bear by shooting it enough times in deadeye. right before it ended the red marker appeared and the dead carcass went flying by as arthur spoke to hosea again. after the cutscene and choosing to stay at the pond, the carcass was gone and i found the bear again and killed it again. did anyone else get this lol

Hosea is pretty powerful to be able to shoot 5 rounds out a single shot rifle without reloading

If you don´t manage to kill it, you get a second chance when Hosea asks you if you want to go back to the camp or stay there. You have to choose the option to stay there and continue to look after the bear. You will see it again shortly after starting the search
