I think experienced OBS users who are trying to use Meld as a replacement are going to be disappointed. Right now, it's not up to par with OBS with how expansive OBS is. Meld is a perfect introductory streaming software for those who feel overwhelmed by how intense OBS can be.

As a fairly advanced OBS user + streamerbot - I’m thrilled to see some competition in the space. OBS is powerful, but it’s a convoluted mess that is poorly optimized, and is a nightmare for plugin management. I’ll spend hours to get a single function / transition to work in OBS and I’d love to see meld eat OBS’s lunch cause it’s just not keeping pace with modern UI. Joel over at Meld responds to damn near everything and is humble and understanding that it doesn’t replace advanced OBS setups - but the dev pace just might get them there.

10+ years of live streaming and I have switched to Meld permanently now. Works for me, never any issues and in my experience way more stable then just OBS or full disclosure I was using Stream Elements OBS

I’ve found Meld way more user friendly even after several years with OBS. The amount of plug ins and tweaks needed to make the most of OBS is something I just don’t have time for.

Thanks for another great video. I switched to Meld Studio after years of struggling with OBS. I'm on a Mac Silicon, and the Apple OS and OBS never have gotten along very well, but updates to one or the other or both always create months of nightmares until a patch or another update fixes the problem, but it never ends. Many OBS plugins quit working on an upgrade to the OS a couple of years ago, and still do not work. And now some very basic features don't work in OBS. Then it takes hour upon hour of research and watching videos to figure out how to do something really basic in OBS, and some of the solutions involve 101 complicated steps with third party software and it just has driven me to the "goodbye OBS, I'm done with you forever." Meld, however, is incredibly easy to use and has all the features I need built right in, and they actually work. Great UI. We're going to see a lot of OBS users switch to Meld, because sooner or later OBS glitches because of an upgrade somewhere in software or hardware, and it breaks. Fundamentally, I would say Meld has a very competent staff and customer service for a product they update constantly, while over at OBS in the cloud . . . there's simply no adult supervision.

I installed Meld just to play around with it a bit. It is not bad, but misses a few features that I really need for my setup, mostly for minigames and other stuff. Like, I can't live without the move plugin at all. I need to be able to move sources. a workaround would probably be to read-out the position of a source via streamerbot and change that value. As soon as that is implemented I will be able to give it a proper try.

MOST streamers end up in OBS in my experience. I can't tell you how many times someone asks me how to do so and so in other software, and I show them how to do it in OBS instead. Works every time. I do see an audience for this software too. Simple non complicated basic streams. I may even try it for a test run to see what I can force it to do.(I enjoy breaking things and fixing them also)

the question is: what is the business model of meld, since it is not open source? on X I asked in their profile if the roadmap was available, but I did not receive any answer. Probably, to make the project sustainable, they will insert paid features, with the semi-premium model. what do you think?

Meld studio is a really good product, but is still in developement, and is VERY promising. OBS is too complex for the vast majority of the streamers, who use just a fraction of its possibilities.

Once meld does vertical with vertical recording im switching. Its just more simplified. I have come to your channel and vids for some obs help in the past which i greatly appreciate.

Just as a heads up, the Duplicator can be used to do the Meld version of nesting scenes. You can make an alerts scene and then with the duplicator tool add that into your other scenes so that you're not adding them one by one. You can also use it to add just one layer from a scene as well if that's what you need to do.
