Back in the early 80s I use to do this in my mother's Chrysler wagon. My brother showed me what to do and had me do it. His "reason" was that I could climb inside the engine compartment and he couldn't. The real reason was the fact that it rains all the time in the state of Washington. Think....wet hands....wet tools....yeah...a real shocking experience on a rainy morning. Lol

I learned this trick years ago and the one thing I learned was you don’t want to use your high-quality snap on screwdriver for this… This is why you keep around those crappy ass old screwdrivers… L O L… keep on rockin

Thats not a negative post, they're all positive, thats the ignition switch post, the other is the battery the other is solenoid post. Jus sayin

Hi guys.what are you bridging here with the screw driver.cant see in video.theres 3 poles.are you bridging the top pole to the left with the bottom negative pole

just did this a week ago my 67 belvedere wont turn over ! everything checked out good relay fine connections all grounded amp gauge good connection at alternator good starter relay works on bench ignition relay works im gonna hook a push button on the dammed thing

I have a 1994 Ford Ranger and I'm no mechanic but I was taught this years ago when I started driving. But mine has been messing up and my truck has the solenoid on the side I did this but I'm not sure if I should replace the whoe starter and solenoid or if if it's in my wiring . The last few days I haven't been able to jump start it with just a screwdriver and a jump from another car. It's driving me nuts lol I'm single and try to not ask for help but I'm at a loss on this one

You can also wack your solenoid with something blunt then go and try and crank it. Worked for me for over a year until i had able to replace it.

yea ford and Mitsubishi, have bad solenoid designs. Denso, Bosch and Hitachi are all good, because they have more copper material for the contact points. Hitachi have a circular shaped contact, on the plunger side, meaning that when the car starts, it can constantly rotate, leading to less wear because it wears out a greater area. The copper posts are square but they are really thick tho.

What if I’m getting a spark but still no start ?? That should mean it’s just the starter that I need to replace? Comments greatly appreciated!

I am trying this when i get home. My car has been parked for the last 2 months. It just makes 1 click noise when i try to turn her on. Either the solenoid or starter im sure.
