Outgoing Call to Emergency Numbers 911 & 112 – Insert SIM and Try Again

How I failed to make an outgoing call to emergence numbers 911 and 112 without a SIM card in my phone. It just got the error: Insert SIM and Try Again.

I just remembered. A long time ago, my grandfather gave me an old phone of one of our relatives. Unfortunately, I couldn't do much on the phone because my grandparents lived in a village and there was no internet infrastructure there. Infrastructure had not yet arrived in our neighborhood. I didn't have any SIM card at that time because I was too young. That's why I would call 112 from time to time when I was bored. (My country is Türkiye, that's why the number is like this). But I would just hang up because at that time I was a very introverted person and I didn't like talking much. And a little fear, of course.

You can’t call an Emergency number without a SIM card in.
If you really wanted to make a call to 911 then you had to insert a SIM card into the phone, so you’ll be able to make calls.

That's really scary to think you're unable to reach emergency services in an emergency where your only option is an old SIM-less phone. Calling emergency services without a SIM is possible in the US and some other countries, however some countries like the UK don't allow SIM-less phones. So, this may be perfectly normal depending on your country. I see from the weather widget that you may be in Dublin. I think that Ireland doesn't allow emergency calls from SIM-less phones, but I'm not sure.

Phones are specifically designed to make calls with Emergency Services 24/7 even without a sim card, and the fact that this phone can’t call an emergency number is really dangerous. Like what if something bad happens?

Well, don't worry, in Canada Our phone's Won't do this. Regardless of if you have a SIM card. It's still going to call. It can be. 911 or 112
