My mom told me her grandfather was a doctor and the way he got out tape worms was to starve the patient and then put a bowl of hot chicken soup by the mouth and the tape worm would come out of the person's mouth to eat. I will never forget that true story. I miss my mom.

yes, other history periods had lead pipes or asbesto insulating, but those were meant to be actually usefull not mere aesthetic xd

My grandma told me about how they still used diet pills that contained tapeworms when she was younger, so around 1950s-1960s. Apparently, it was common practice to eat the pill and keep the worm until you were happy with the results and then sit or place your behind in a bath with warm water and the worm would get out on its own. She also said it was possible to pass the worm while on the toilet. Sounds absolutely horrifying but people go under the knife and do worse for beauty standards so I guess we haven't changed all that much.

Growing up an overweight kid I remember wanting to take these tapeworm pills so bad, or getting so sick/hurt that I’d fall into a coma and lose weight. Like, it was a legit dream of mine and I thought it was so normal. Growing up overweight does some things to your brain…

2nd year medical technologist student here. Tapeworms or Platyhelminthes as we call it, is one of the LONGEST parasites that we are learning. Sometimes measuring to 20 meter.

Tapeworms are extremely aggresive, they will destroy your digestive tract, take your B12 Vitamin (Folic Acid) which is extremely important for blood blast cells to mature and function. Actually, to be thin wasn’t the whole truth. The Victorian beauty standard was a proportion. The bust being XY in bigger than the waist and the waist being XY bigger than the waist. This was more often achieved by augmenting rather than synching in. Corsets where here for support of the bust not the only tight lacing. This practice was only done by high fashion ladies. So just differentiate between those and the common folk.
