How should young people questioning their gender identity be treated by medics? Dr Hilary Cass's long-awaited report is an attempt to separate that question from the often toxic debate that surrounds it.

Her recommendations of better research, the standardisation of treatment, a more holistic approach, were welcomed in many quarters.

The child needs a therapist for their mental health, not hormones. If she still suffer from gender dysphoria at 18, she can transition in a couple of years.
