It would help to mention that you need to turn on "Subject Recog in AF" to "On" to get the eye square/focus.

So to recognize all these elements do I need to put the focus area on wide or it works also with other area options?

Nice video well explained. Having owned the a7rv for a few months now I am confident the AI autofocus for humans, planes, trains and cars and for the most part animals is very very good. I am less convinced with birds and insects (appreciating focusing on insects particularly is a challenge anyway). Bird focusing I find hit and miss and no better and maybe worse tracking wise than my a1. What I hope is with a dedicated AI autofocus chip Sony can release meaningful and really beneficial updates to make the AI system even better.

I'd also like to know how to turn off subject recognition off all together so that it's not always looking for an animal, plane, train, or automobile. Like if I'm trying to take a photo of a lake, or mountain, the ocean etc. Is it always looking for one of the subjects in the recognition menu or is there a way to completely disable it until I'm ready to use it again?

I'm trying mine on a fish in my aquarium with good lightening - it failed horribly I'm afraid. Tried with several lenses just to make sure. Maybe the aquarium glass walls or the water or the size of the fish. Not sure.
