When not to use QuickSet in MikroTik devices

Some fear it, some loathe it, but there are situations where it can come in handy. More importantly, you must understand the limitations and implications. So let's check it out. What is QuickSet?

RouterOS is the BEST gui interfere to configure a router. I always have felt other brands configuring interferes were far to sparse of options. Even though i only starting learning how to use ikrotik routers (and networking cause im new to all this) like a week ago, i can say Mikrotik is a overall good brand with GODLY pricing.

Don't be scared to pick a new skill! I knew literally zero about networking/configuring a week ago. But after good few days of google searches i know how to setup a router 👍

I would never use quickset. When I first noticed this new menu, I decided to explore it, and it unexpectedly made changes to the router that required physical access to undo. Maybe it is now more safe.

Just added a 2G board to my netmetle box. Was not sure if the board was working due to the main webconfig(quickset?) did not list 2G, only 5G. I was only digging into the setting I found the added board. Too bad quickset can only handle 5G in client mode. Would been nice to see that gui scan on both 2G and 5G, point and click to join any open network in view. Like "McDonald Free WiFi".

Which model is good to use as a travel router. Wifi to Eth0

I was wanting to use Quickset on my CRS326 24G-S+-RM and I have yet to find any guides on the Eth Quickset. Where I think my issues are coming in is the left lower corner and the options there. I am coming over from Ubiquiti and a little Cisco use, and none of this lines up with what I learned over there.

QuickSet is the worse part of RouterOS. Sometimes you must press 2x Apply to setup proper dhcp server, many times not configure some stuff or do that wrong. When you look into changelog then ALWAYS QuickSet is fixed after fix... this is like Mikrosoft update system.

@MikroTik to hell with wifi6, go with 70 GHz and 5G for home right away, stop chasing market, lead one. And you need new version of nv2, better and faster and modern. And real long-range wireless, not LHG which is barely 20 km. The goal is to get 70 Ghz up to 5 km 1gbit FD bridge and lets say 30-40 km 300-500 mbit HD 5-6 GHz bridge. You've already lost wireless enterprise market to ubiquiti, and home wireless even to tplink and zyxel. Shame on you.

If not using QuickSet any more after you went to the dark side and started using the advanced settings is the recommendation, why is it still not possible to simple stop showing QuickSet when I connect to the web interface? Please allow disabling it (without any custom skin trickery) to prevent accidental changes and remove the additional step when working with the web interface.

I never use quickset. Another thing that I never use in mikrotik is 802.11k/v/r, because it doesn't exist 💁🏻‍♂️
