Coronavirus: Can Herd Immunity Help The UK Battle The Outbreak?

When enough people in a community are vaccinated against a disease, this can make it more difficult for the disease to spread to susceptible individuals who have not yet been or cannot be vaccinated. This, the NHS outlines, is called “herd immunity”.

But how realistic is it that we could be protected by herd immunity?

Hey man there is literally cases in South Korea and Japan of those who are infected and recovers only to be infected again. So immunity after sickness may not happen at all.

Yes, ppl recovered has shown immunity, but the virus in Italy has already mutated and have different strain. so even you have immunity to the original COVID-19 it's still very risky to let it spread, cos it will mutate! This they won't tell you!

Holy smokes. I was thinking of traveling to the UK since flights are cheap. Glad I saw this video. Good luck to the herd in the UK. I'll be staying safe. Much love from the US

At the very beginning of the outbreak in wuhan, the situation is similar, as the testing kits was not enough, someone has the symptoms wouldn't get tested, however, China using this period of time to build 2 hospitals and plenty of factories are making the testing kits day and night. so self isolation at home is just a temp solution. finally, no matter which country, as the government, you have to stand out and provide the real solution.

You know some infected patients in China do get infected again after their recovery. So it's better to do something before the massive infection comes...

The herd immunity is just a fancy way of saying doing nothing and hoping for the best. And they make up a huge assumption i.e.Covid19 being seasonal/recurring to justify this utterly stupid action.

You know we have a problem here when even Trump declared a state of emergency in the USA but Boris is still digging his heels in on running his science experiment.

Even if the herd immunity concept makes somehow sense for the "greater good", it's insane and cruel if UK follows this plan. Other european countries need to shut down borders to UK then, cause they follow the opposite strategy with isolation, shut down of kitas, schools, universities and any other public place like gyms, museums, clubs, cinemas, .. Public events are cancelled as well. This strategy makes lots of sense cause it will slow down the amount of infected and the health care system has better chances to cope with it. Herd immunity will also develop this way, just slower with more control and not sacrificing weaker people. According to WHO it's also not sure yet people can build up immunity, the virus can mutate.

What makes you sure that the virus will be the same if it becomes seasonal?

What if it changes like normal flu.

I 'm missing something
