Islamic law is best After Divorce, give her maintenance for three months for the Iddat period or if she is pregnant and then she is dependent on her family or she has to find her own source of income.. Remember she was given meher(dowry) and she will also have portion of property from her family's property so she can use these for starting a business

Edit : Regarding the children it is compulsory The husband has to spend on his children which includes accomodation, food, education and medicine etc ( according to Quran 65:7)
And Islam says it is better if he is able then he should provide maintenance for her ex-wife also as long as she has Custody of children.
