I was there in 2019. Danielle Burnett fell 500 feet and did not survive. Sliding is fine, but if you catch a rock and start tumbling head over feet, you are done. We are great hikers, but still chose to wear safety harnesses and clipped onto the cable- 2 ends so one is always on the cable when you unclip every 20 feet. They shoudl be required- would save lives. They actually discourage people from using them which is nuts.They think it will slow things down but no. We were faster then everyone because we were super confident. Remember, as good as you are, a 200lb. man 20 feet above you can fall and take you clean off that hill. After a long ~4-5 hour hike (1/3 of it in the dark), just to get there, your legs are a bit tired as well. The weather can quickly and briefly come in up there even on a sunny day. That is what happened to the young woman in 2019. She had a harness but was not clipped on at the time. Always use 2 tethers/2 caribiners for the cable side so you are always on.

R.I.P. Danielle. Strangest thing- around the time this happened, I snapped one of many pics up at Yosemite. This one looks just like a Bear sliding off the mountain around the area she slid. They say bears are spiritual protectors. I think it came to take her safely home. I do amatuer photography and have taken over 100, 000 images. This is only one of two images like this. I don't think it was a coincidence.

I am not a hokey or preachy type- more scientific, facts (show me) minded, but keep your faith strong. I think there is a plan for everyone and when it is your time- it is simply your time. Be ready. Be kind to others.

She fractured her neck, broke her spine, fractured her pelvis in two places and broke three ribs. She is a student on vacation.Her right foot and ankle were destroyed and carefully rebuilt. Her left leg was amputated below the knee, so she will be a cripple for life. After reading the hateful and disgraceful comments here, I am losing any hope for humanity.

10/7/23 the horrible thing is people should be certified to climb this mountain. It shouldn’t just be anybody climbing and then doesn’t anybody check the weather? and part of that video people are in tennis shoes and then they’re saying well. Where is the ranger? You’re an adult you chose to climb that mountain people should not have to pay for your error, You’re lucky to be alive, sometimes nature should be viewed at a safe point not just to say I climbed it
