I have been using the same handful of old diablo blades I had on hand from my last job in construction for occasional projects in the garage at home for the past multiple years, but they are all pretty much fully clapped out at this point so I am on the hunt for the best value to performance blades to pickup for future home projects in the evenings/weekends.

these kinds of objective comparison videos definitely help wrap my head around the math of the base level blades (~$2/blade if only counting metal capable blades, or $1.56/blade if counting the full multi pack which includes wood+metal blades) VS high-end carbide single blades (~$13-$18/blade) VS mid-range cobalt blades (~$5-$8/blade)

I learned long ago the most expensive premium drill bits aren't always the best performing or longest lasting and imagine the sawzall blade market has similar traits

It would be interesting to see carbide tooth blades tested, and some details on blade thicknesses of the four you tested. Also would appreciate to see you cut until they wont cut anymore, # of cuts, and a chart showing time it took to cut over time as the blades brake down.

I think some folks are forgetting the point of this test. Yes, the higher end Diablo blades would've faired a lot better. But if you clicked on each link, you'd find out the point of this test is which sub $20 5-pack blades would fair better, which the cheaper Diablo didn't fair better than the others. The higher end Diablo blades are about twice that price for a 3-pack. Not all of us are made of money and can spare a few more min per cut.

Thank you for the test. I am a plumber from Israel and here you gonna find mostly Lenox blades. I always wanted to order diablo brand from amazon but buying all the time Lenox blades stopped me from doing so. After this video i got my mind at ease about that Lenox blades. From my experience which is mostly to cut iron pipes with those blades, they need to be replaced after few uses. Thanks again 😎🙏🇮🇱

Good test, better than most. Still need more cuts to determine reliability.

Interesting results! I always wondered about those 18/14 tpi blades... seems like the juice isn't worth the squeeze. One thing I will say about craftsman recip blades is the paint comes off them immediately and they rust fast, so they don't have a great shelf life imo. Subbed!

Lennox! Massachusetts company, great stuff! But having said that, Diablo is the go to for most plumbers I know these days

Can you do a best reciprocating blade for pvc video? I think that would be interesting

I think the metal you were cutting was too thin for the number of teeth per inch you were using. That metal should have been using about 24 teeth per inch. The broken teeth were a result of the teeth biting and snagging on too thin metal for those blades.

The only thing I would say about the test is a ton of vibration from what I saw

I think Not enough downward force.
That caused the issue with the timing of the Diablo result.

Looking at your video again… I also have been disappointed with Diablo metal blades.. some are great but other blades just better.. I had a package of Diablo 5x metal blades and couldn’t cut angle iron or rebar… really was disappointed… century, Irwin and imperial has great bla

I bought a Diablo flap disk several years back and have not anything else with their name on it since.

The Diablo was not in your "control". I'm indifferent about brand, but the other 3 blades had the same tpi. Whether or not that matters is outside of the control.

well that diablo blade was medium metal type if it was a thick metal 1 it would have done better maybe ?
