If you go back and read Chainsaw Man, there is never a point where any devil calls Pochita the "chainsaw devil", but only "chainsaw man" or they go after "chainsaw's heart". Only humans think he is the chainsaw devil. But thinking that a devil must be what they look like or what weapon they use isn't necessarily the case. Angel makes swords, but he's not the sword devil. Makima makes chains, but she's not the chain devil. Pochita makes chainsaws, is he the chainsaw devil then? That's the point.

i think that the reason why pochita is represented as a chainsaw devil, if he really is the extinction devil, is because it could be representative of how a chainsaw slowly cuts down a forest, leaving nothing left? i've been thinking for a while that the reason that pochita has the ability to erase devils is because its could be representative of him 'cutting them down' and removing them from the forest? im prolly looking too far into this, but i really like your theory, i think it makes a lot of sense.

Yoru bringing up guilt to make a stronger weapon is interesting because it was brought up during the assassins arch. Santa Claus used her assistant as a vessel for Doll Devil as a way to go in hell. She mentioned guilt as the final ingredient to making a perfect doll!

Maybe the real strongest devil was the friends we made along the way.

on a serious note, having Yoru's desire be having her own identity could do well. If Asa and Yoru's relationship can turn out like Pochita and Denji, I can imagine the gut punch of a dilemma Yoru would have to deal with. Choosing to stay in Asa's body thereby keeping her alive, or pursuing her desire of having an "own identity". That's, of course, assuming that Asa can't live with just half a brain.

I always thought it was kinda weird how Pochita has one of the most op powers in chainsawman and he's only the chainsaw devil. I'd be very suprised if there isn't more to Pochita.

I don't really think that Pochita would be the Extinction Devil, rather it is the devil of the "Fear of Being Forgotten". Currently I'm working on a one-shot manga which elaborates on this topic and I would completely understand if Fujimoto-sensei would use this topic in his manga. In Fire Punch he also tried to do some philosophical resolution and after Chainsaw Man Part 1 I wouldn't be suprised if he did the same thing again. I think for mangakas the fear of being forgotten is a one of the most important thing that everyone wants to avoid (Everyone wants to leave a legacy if you know what I mean). It is absulutly the most horrifying thing that could happen with a carrier like this. We know that Fujimoto-sensei loves stories about mangakas (he himself told this and of course there's Look Back) so I think he tries to capture this theme with the Chainsaw Devil. For me the clues pointing in this direction, especially if we examine the Chainsaw Devil's power. It is literally erase the devils whole core concept not just killing them. The people can't remember a single thing about them. Extinction is a little to superficial for me because if something goes extinct it is just disappear from the physical world but the concept still remains (in language, culture etc.) and in the case of the Chainsaw Devil that's not what's happening. Also all human being is basically working so that they are not forgotten. Some people do this through family, others through art, but there are many ways. The important thing is that your knowledge and yourself remains in others. So yeah, I think the most terrifying thing to people is being forgotten but not everyone can sense the weight of this state so people are usually talking about more trivial things if it come to fears. (Sorry if I bore you with my philosophical thoughts 😅)

"They say you die twice. Once when you stop breathing and the second, a bit later on, when somebody mentions your name for the last time." - The Egyptians. I guess it would make sense if Pochita were the Death Devil himself, his powers are not at all far from "killing things then making them being forgotten" -_-

I don't know how I didn't realize Makima wanted to use Chainsaw Man to kill the rest of the horsemen and probably the primordial fears so that humanity would become less afraid of things and maybe she couls have balanced relationships with them by eliminating fear.

Guess that chaos devil theory still up for grabs

I'd say that fear of own children's death could be easily a primordial fear, and for most people it can be even stronger than many other fears.
Pochita-Chainsawman have umbilical cord choking him - one of causes of newborn death. Chainsaws (actually first invented as surgical instrument) could be just modern accesory to Pochita's look. I guess, family(also selfsacrifice) is a main subject of whole story, and this theory come along whith it pretty well.
Plus one more small theory about War Devil: If Control Devil whished for equality and liked chaotic Chainsaw as opposite for her own nature, for War Devil it could be... wish for being safe?

I just wonder what Fujimoto will focus on in this story, and how important things such as primordial fears and the horsemen will be to this part. We have a very little understanding of this world, and I'm sure we'll get to know it a lot better after part 2, but that all depends on what direction Fujimoto wants to take this part. From part 1 I feel like the "science" of devils never was that important to him, but now that there is a new part (maybe even more to come) he almost has to explain those ideas he brought up near the end of part 1. I'm really excited but we can only wait and see.

Isn’t extinction just death? In the same way that the Darkness Devil doubles as fear of the unknown, I don’t think extinction would be a separate thing in this world. Idk about this theory, but there’s definitely something more going on with Pochita

I find it Interesting that Devils strength is tied to how much people fear what they represent. But for Chainsaw Man, it mentions that he is weakened because people are not afraid of him specifically. Doesn't seem to follow the logic of how Devils are supposed to work unless the concept that Chainsaw Man represents has greater meaning for humanity.

I think you might be on to something. I always found it weird how strong the chainsaw devil is, but it would make more sense if he's a representation of a primordial fear

Fun fact, "Asa" means morning in Japanese, and "Yoru" can mean night/evening

Imo it's simpler than that. We learnt from the doll devil arc and as early as the introduction of the gun devil by makima, that devil's can eat the flesh of other devils to become stronger. In the doll devils case, a power increase and the ability to regenerate in the dark. So she borrowed the power of the darkest devil.
I think that's what going on here, pochita gained the power to erase thing they eat from a stronger devil and took that power. Maybe the devil gave them their power, or pochita took it forcefully.
