I would LOVE a video that takes a look at building a practical makeup collection in much the same way you talk about building an everyday style/wardrobe. These are so often talked about as if they are different and similar considerations don’t apply (where and how do you put on your makeup, whether fragrance is a deal breaker, what your skin needs are, whether you actually go out). How do you curate your makeup collection based on practical needs that lead to a tailored beauty collection of fewer nicer things?

I noticed in Lisa Eldridge's video, "Meet my new creation, " when she describes what she likes about the lipstick color that she named "Lisa" after herself, she clearly described her preference to erase the blue in her natural lip color toward a slightly warm pink... which she described as "neutralizing." But of course this means her preference is to get rid of the "mucky" blue undertone in her lips. And Lisa uses the term "neutral" to describe how a color functions on the lip, and not to describe the lipstick color itself. So I can see that Hannah and Lisa essentially have opposite preferences for lipstick color undertones. 🦋🧡🦋

Please never take the song out of the beginning. The second I saw this video pop up, I started singing the New Makeup Hot Takes song.

The rant and look of disgust on your face during the Guerlain advent calendar section was WONDERFUL

I love your explanation about why the Lisa Eldridge colors don't work for you, because it totally explains why they are perfect for me- my coloring is very saturated and quite pink so all the greys and browns on the lips usually look terrible on me. The pinky undertones allow me to wear more nuanced colors that I usually can't when they are made by other brands.

I LOVE your Editor-in-Chief, Chief Beauty Officer, Executive Art Director takes - it’s super fun but more than that it’s actually a really useful way of discerning what is actually at play, how the machinations of marketing are working. Gawd you’re the bloody best Hannah. I don’t usually do adult animation but I might just take a look at Arcane 😁

I feel like the natasha denona launches in recent history have been like "remember that beautifully nuanced, truly creative and artistic palette we once released and have since discontinued? Well here is a more commercial, straight forward, lowest common denominator cash grab version of it! yes we released a palette a month ago but you need another one! with an unhinged name, no less! hope you enjoy xoxoxox"

Lisa Eldridge has never blown my skirt up… it’s not cool toned, grey toned or ghoulish enough for me. I love her artistry and old soul with my whole heart, but not her makeup 💗. Totally agree!

I love that you used the Arcane collab as an excuse to gush about the show for two minutes. Fully agree, can't wait for the rest of the new season to drop!

I can't wait for this piece of deliberately provocative commentary that is based almost entirely on shallow moralizing

Patrick Ta is known for loving that shade of pink. He’s made several blushes and lip oils in a Barbie ish pink. I do agree tho I’ve seen a few things with hot pink for holiday. One of the new Oden’s Eye Christmas palettes is very rosy with several pops of pink and I’m here for it. Reminds me of a retro Christmas with a pink tree

I think bright pinks and tropical vacation themes for holiday beauty is a nod to luxury. Back when only the most wealthy people could afford wintertime vacations to get out of the cold, it was seen as a status symbol to have clothes and makeup to match.
These days, when so many people are struggling to afford the bare minimum and it's circled around to only the most wealthy people being able to afford to escape the cold and go on vacations over the holidays, this trend of magenta and blue and bright colors for the holiday releases seems fitting. 🤷‍♀️ If you're rich. 🤣🤣

I love your take on the rabanne highlighter. I totally agree. It makes me feel the way I felt when I was a child, imagining what it was like to be a grown up lady with Real Makeup.

I love a new makeup hot takes full of thoughtful commentary on frivolous things in these dark times 💜

Yk i hadn’t noticed how much you’ve affected my lipstick opinions until that lisa eldridge lipstick conversation, I think im also a pale olive, and I also keep buying neutral—looking lipsticks online and then just hating their rosy-nude realities when they arrive and you honestly made me realize that I wouldn’t really like the new lisa eldridge lipsticks in my real human life!
A long winded way to say I appreciate your perspective and experience :)
(and just because i rarely comment, I’ll add that your content about online shopping has been a big eye opener for me, especially the way you talk about mindless shopping without intention to buy anything just to feel productive is just something I am constantly doing, and you make the world feel more sane, so thanks for the work you do as well)

"It looks like an intern's presentation at the boardroom... but you're going to have to stay as an intern for awhile and slowly work your way up and learn some things along the way." 😂🤣😂

We’re definitely doing pinkmas this year. I’ve noticed everything is pink even in home decor sections, which is very interesting. There’s almost more pink than there is typical Christmas color ways

I completely agree with you on the Guerlain advent calendar and all advent calendars, but I will say I think the point of them is to gift rather than to buy for oneself. As a gifter, a lot of people want to give something without necessarily knowing personal preferences, and often to be a bit flashy while doing it. And I guess as a gift receiver, I might be more open to a little taste of everything that I would never buy for myself. But I still think most of it would go to waste. I'd PERSONALLY be more impressed if someone bought me exactly the bottle of perfume I'd been lusting after rather than an impersonal grab bag, but some people are probably just be impressed by the price tag I suppose.
