friends, when I was editing this I noticed that during my rant about saturated colors, the lipstick on my lips *appears* to be the exact same color as Makeup by Mario South Shore just inches away on the screen. However, I think it's an optical illusion—the backdrop of my skin equalizes the greyish tint in Beatrice and makes it look brighter, whereas South Shore looks more neutral than it is against the white backdrop and the other ultra-saturated colors in the swatch imagery. I think if I had South Shore on my lips it would look much pinker than Beatrice. Of course I could be wrong about South Shore specifically; I'm just basing this on the photography and my VAST past experience with lipstick colors. Just wanted to pin a comment because I feel confident that people watching are going to be like "girl what are you talking about, South Shore is the same color as the lipstick on your actual face."

Also I think it might be time for me to stop talking about desaturation

Hot take: "Jelly Slime" as a title is further proof of the absolute aggressive push to minors that the cosmetics companies have been engaging in for the past few years.

Please don't ever stop talking about desaturation as you have helped me and probably a lot of others identify our desaturated skin tones on the market and what colors work best for us! 💜

"Swatch Bard" was my DREAM career in elementary school I desperately wanted to name acrylic paint and nail polish colors

This is so off topic, but I just have to say that if you ever wonder whether you should start a podcast, the answer is YES! I find myself listening to old videos of yours all the time, especially when I’m in bed sick, as I am this morning. I genuinely feel I could listen to you talk about anything, for any length of time, and be completely enthralled 😂

Oh, I'm very surprised to hear that your video explaining saturation didn't perform well. For me it was tremendously eye opening, as I finally understood why all base products in the market look so pink or so yellow on my skin.

Please please please, Hannah, never stop talking about saturation, contrast and color theory, I highly appreciate that type of content!

Clarins lip oil was one of the first and has been around for decades. The reason it is so good is because Clarins specializes in oils for the skin

I LOVE that you are explicit in discussing saturation and color and depth esp with foundation, and it is confounding that most beauty gurus are so inconsistent and imprecise when they describe color considering this should be a basic and easy thing they deliberately study up on; and visual art already has language for this and it is not cool=gray…rather, cool is going towards blue and away from yellow, and, yes, adding blue to yellow (or adding any contrasting pigments) desaturates the original color and that is why a dusty light yellow or a dusty warm peach is cognitively sensed as olive in juxtaposition with more saturated shades, as color is also context-relative

The peach fuzz color is on the sad beige spectrum.

I agree- wouldn't that just be the dream job- naming colors for the Pantone Color Institute? Antique apricot sounds much more romantic than peach fuzz.

I think your discussion about saturation is why I’ve started to look into purchasing Asian centered makeup! The softness of the colors that they use is so much more appealing to me!

The Pantone colour of the year, Peach Fuzz, is exactly the same colour I painted my bedroom in the nineties. Everything comes back around.

It gives me so much hope when you speak about loops of reaction and thought that come up over and over again. My life seems to be filled with those loops, not just in relation to beautiful things, and I tend to place more emphasis on the existence of the loop rather than my own growth in the area. Coming up against an old loop doesn't have to mean that I am failing in my attempts to grow past them. My own thoughts and actions in response to the loops do.

We love your videos on colour theory and saturation. As a pale olive, I'm finally beginning to understand why some things don't look good on me. Please keep posting videos about this!

I was interested in maybe trying one of the MakeupMario lipsticks until I swatched them in store. There are no neutrals - they’re all various shades of PINK in real life. All of the shades are VERY saturated. That sealed the deal on them being a skip for me. I ordered one of the Prada lipsticks, Argile - which is a de-saturated beige.

Thank you for that last bit on saturation because although I knew this already it still struck me that this is the reason most drugstore lip colors and lip sticks in general always make me feel like I'm trying too hard or I end up feeling like a clown. That's why I ended up making my own tinted lip balms before they were so popular, but people are still stumped by the subtle colors and tend to buy more of my saturated colors. I know this from doing shows and interacting directly with the customer. I'm not sure if people really want to buy something that slightly enhances if they feel like they're not getting their money's worth if the color isn't punchy. But I'm always looking for less saturation 😅
