I'm not fully convinced this is a problem. If there is a patch with no liquid metal on the die side, then it's most likely residing on the heatsink side. You can see what I'm talking about at 1:08. Also in this video, the culprit seemed to mostly be the excess amount of dust buildup on both the fan and heatsink fins (which 100% would degrade cooling efficacy).

The world is exploding over this problem and this guy has the real answer

Liquid Metal is such a great thermal solution. I bought the ps5 about a year ago so I don’t think mine has this issue. I leave it vertical and I haven’t noticed any heating issues. My OG ps3 on the other hand… RIP =(

ptm 7950 all the way for direct die contact unless it's between the die of a cpu and its ihs (which generally won't soak the liquid metal due to its composition nor have the liquid metal go over the edges with how much pressure there is). I think for the ps5, choosing lm was a flaw as in time, with any heatsink it'll get soaked and there may be more manufacturing issues. PTM7950 has been shown to be close to LM in terms of performance when we're talking about direct die-heatsink solutions. It's cheap, it doesn't need to get repasted, even in 10 years (only if you remove the heatsink you need to reapply it) it'll be fine.

I never keep my ps5 in vertical position, always horizontal

Its not a design issue, but a Manufacturing Issues. If the Liquid Metal isnt spread correctly due to a Production Error, this will happen, but its not that common at all.

It was already debunked that the Liquid Metal will run overtime, because of the mounting Pressure that is keeping the Metal where it should be. If this would not be the Case at all, then how can so many PCs with Liquid Metal not have this Issue as well? Because it only happens when the application is not done correctly.

Ps3: "eraser mod" because it would overheat and die
Ps4: the ps4 is actually ok, I clean mine every year and don't really have issues, cant speak for the slim though
Ps5: supply issues and overheats and dies
Maybe sony will get it right next time

Good thing PCs are all kept horizontal… wait

When I play nba 2k23 and ncaa football 25 my ps5 cuts off by itself with no lights

The issue is when im playing, PS5 games. It'll overheat and shut off. But when i play PS4 games, i don't have any problems with the console. Sony should've added a metal cap to place over the liquid metal, so it doesn't spill and oxide.

LM has been used on PCs for a while, and those also have them vertically and this hasn't been an issue there

why not just use thermal paste instead?

i dont think thats true, recently i re pasted my laptop, G14, it have LM on cpu from factory and paste on gpu. LM was kind of dry and there was hard metal spots on nickel plated heatsink. Little sanding and new LM fixed my overheating. What i meant by this, its not position, , but something from LM got soaked to heatsink.

See this is why you don’t have your consoles vertically lmao horizontal gang

Just use thermal paste instead of l.metal

'this is how I solved that issue'...

Proceeds to not solve the issue at all 👍
