You should add a disclaimer that this noise can also be caused by coil whine (which is FAR FAR more common, has been present in all my PS4's AND my PS5). This way people don't rush to take apart their console and possibly break it all in vain.

Disclaimer: Do NOT confuse this problem with the coil whine buzzing sound. the coil whine comes from the GPU of the PlayStation 5 and is completely normal. This happens because the GPU is working to produce graphical images, and is more intense due to graphical advancements such as, but not limited to: Ray Tracing, 4K and 120FPS technology. It happens on PS4's as well, but the sound is muffled due to the fan sound. This sound is more apparent on PS5 due to it's low frequency fan sound, which makes the coil whine stand out. It happens on Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and PC. If you try to get this to a repair center or to the retail store you bought it from to get your money back, you'll be rejected because THIS IS NOT A PROBLEM. To test if this is coming from the GPU and not the fan:

1. Open a game. Give preference to games that require high graphical processing power (Ex.: Call of Duty, Marvel's Spider-Man, Grand Theft Auto V, Astro's Playroom, etc.).

2. Mute all sound holding the mic button on your controller. This will help you notice the buzzing sound more easily.

3. Get closer to the PS5's top, then listen closely to the sound it produces.

4. If you can hear the buzzing sound at a low-medium frequency, hold the PS Button on your controller to return back to the Home Screen. This'll reduce the GPU's graphical processing power due to the lack of polygons being displayed while on the Home Screen.

5. If the buzzing sound is at a low frequency, that means it's coil whine, coming from the GPU. If it's still at a low-medium frequency audio, it's possible that either the GPU is faulty or it's the fan of the console. If that's the case, it's recommended that you bring your console to a repair center. DO NOT TRY TO FIX THIS PROBLEM ON YOUR OWN UNLESS YOU'RE QUALIFIED TO FIX THIS BY YOURSELF. IF OTHERWISE, SERIOUS DAMAGED COULD BE INFLICTED TO YOUR CONSOLE.

Thank you for reading.

I got lucky with my PS5. No issues whatsoever. I didn't get it at launch it was about a year and a half after. So I missed all the early system software bugs. And got a reliable console that still works fine.

I think people just has to remember to give their PS5s a nice cleaning like monthly or so? These things can collect dust easily without you even noticing until its too late and you get problems like it randomly shuts off (personal experience). And as John has laid out here, it doesn't take much to do so - just a couple of tools and you're set!

I noticed my PS5 fan getting a little louder. I disassembled it pretty far apart, and cleaned up any dust after about a year of use. Man, this thing just collects dust. Anyways I was very detailed in cleaning everything and it actually did make the system quieter.

I didnt have that specific sound in the vid. I just noticed it being louder and not like when it was new

@markus9641 no, you can’t do this. Because of the power supply. If your power supply has a dust inside. That’ll remain the ps5 is overheating or buzzing.

It's not really all that 'bad' news. A lot worse things can happen than a fan being dirty or failing. Basically, if any electrical item you have starts making this kind of noise it's the same deal.

Just put a dry clean piece of
fabric on your console covering the sides everytime you turn it off und unplug it (not resting mode, and you should turn it off more often too) so it won't collect too much dust. And clean it with a small vacum, not compressed air.

I understand that things were more robust in the past, but they were also more simple. Learn to take care of your things. Not because it's expensive or well built it means it's gonna last forever, and you won't need to take care of it.

Thanks for the heads up but you should definitely do a follow up if it’s something else that might make that sound

I only notice if my room is completely quiet. When my floor fan and air filter is off. But I also notice little creaks and squeaks I don’t normally listen to

What brand of cooling fan did you purchase for your video?

what about if the Disc input makes a noise on start up, like a Dj scratching a vinyl backwards? and wouldn't it be better to keep those vents off the ps5 for better cooling?
