Having a meal has become a torture for my 5 year old and for the entire family too. He may be hungry and love the food, but seems like he just gets bored of the process and ends up talking, singing, playing at the table, anything but eating and can't finish any of his meals until I remind him a dozen times that he should. If I just let him stay at the table until he finishes on his own, he may stay there for literally over an hour and in the end I still come and preach him to eat😖

I have both the sensory issues AND inflexibility! 🤣 Seriously, though, if I tried to eat tomato I would vomit. I like the TASTE of tomato and pretty much anything made from tomato, including mild salsa which is basically pureed tomato, but I can't choke down a slice of tomato. That's been my guide for dealing with my kids as to whether they're not eating a vegetable because "kids don't like vegetables" or if it's a sensory thing.

Yeah. Mine has both. He's 16 and it's still a nightmare.

16 and was diagnosed with adhd when I was very little and Ive had sensory issues all my life, I use to like a whole bunch of foods but then something started to change around the age of 6 and I slowly stoped liking these textures and smells and then my mother passed when I was 7 and then it drastically got worse and still to this day my mental block for food is so much, I've only been able to try blueberries again these last however many years and it's texture I can't look at certain foods without wanting to throw up or rip my insides out and just completely lose my appetite entirely. And the thing is I kinda enjoyed the taste of the blueberry but I couldn't eat them again bc that texture. I wish I was treated when I was younger, Its difficult to even get the motivation to try something new because my sensory issues go through the roof

My child has an odd visual cue. If she doesn't like how it looks, even if she had the food before, she will make herself sick. If she looks at it while eating she will make herself vomit. But if I cover her eyes, she can eat it. If I camouflage the new food I am giving her in food she already can eat, she has no problem. Like yellow bell peppers in corn she can eat but not any other color of bell pepper. It is really affecting her health. She also has a texture problem.

I didn't like tomatoes as a do now. Doesn't palate taste change? Not trolling just adding to the conversation.

I don’t care what you call it, but I’m not eating anything stringy😂

Do "ADHD" diets work or are they worth it? Do you recommend an elimination diet?
