The easiest recipe and the one I've been making on a constant rotation for years! Make sure the potatoes are really nice and tender after the first portion of the baking (can take up to an hour to bake them until tender so don't worry) then once you add the cheese they will continue to cook and the top will get gloriously browned and bubbly. These are so wonderful, even along side something like braised short ribs or roasted chicken.

RECIPE:
2.5lb of Russet or Idaho Potatoes, sliced really thin
2 cups of Heavy Cream
2 Cloves of Garlic, smashed and peeled
Sprig of Sage
Pinch of Nutmeg
Plenty of Salt and Pepper
1/2 cup of Parmesan Cheese
8oz of Freshly Grated White Sharp Cheddar, Gruyere, Swiss or a combination of the 3

Potatoes au Gratin have always seemed so intimidating, so though I’ve wanted to for so long, I’ve never even attempted to make them. Last week I bought everything to make a different recipe & never went through with it. Your recipe looks AMAZING and the process is simplified to take away any doubt or stress. You’re so right - anything with potatoes, cheese & a cream sauce will be a crowd pleaser. Thank you for sharing! I will absolutely be serving these alongside prime rib on Christmas & I can’t wait for everyone to enjoy them!

Thank you Laura, you’ve bring childhood memories, Gratin de pomme de terre (this is how we call it in French) is the first dish I made, I was 9 and I could eat the whole thing by myself 😅. My mom would prepare the potatoes, I arranged them in the oven dish, poured 1 Liter of Milk, grated nutmeg, salt, pepper, diced butter and plenty of cheese (we used Kiri and Gruyère). Thank you

I make potatoes au gratin every Christmas and a mandolin really does produce a better result, and it’s not complicated at all! Recipe looks delicious. And I agree with your method-straight into the cream. Many recipes call for a roux-thickened milk sauce and that just seems unnecessary.

Last time I made the dish, I fried the potatoes in the air fryer with a spoonful of oil and then assembled it. It took it to a different level, the taste was much deeper. Happy holidays. ❤

I layer the potatoes, cream, and cheese like lasagna. Cheese throughout the whole gratin makes the sauce thicker and more flavorful. I also add fresh grated parmesan with each layer. She only had a topping of cheese and it slid off. What about the other poor naked and not as flavorful potatoes?😂

I sliced my finger on a mandolin making your other potato au gratin recipe for Thanksgiving. Still came out amazing and I would do it again for this one. But I will be more careful this time 😂

So your always asking what we want to see you make. Ok so the other day I made cucumber and tomato salad I added some black olives and feta cheese. I have been craving some creamy Italian dressing. I found creamy Italian garlic dressing (Maria's). Omg it was so delicious. Maybe you can show us how to make homemade. But you have to try it and let me know what you think. ❤❤😂
