At least four Philippine Navy personnel are injured following China Coast Guard’s firing of a water cannon at a Philippine ship involved in a resupply mission in the West Philippine Sea on Tuesday, March 5.

It is absolutely shameful and irresponsible for our navy leadership to send our navy soldiers on a mission while ill-equipped to respond to existing and potential threats. Is this a military or civilian operation? I believe resupplying soldiers on an outpost is definitely a military operation. Therefore, why can we not send a military escort to protect the personnel on the supply ship? True, we are less capable military-wise. But when our military fights, I believe we must honor the valiant tradition of General Gregorio H. del Pilar fighting astride his white horse. If this is a military mission, do not send our men like defenseless civilians. Our anthem demands that in the presence of oppressors we will fight and die like our heroes for our motherland.
