I wasn't born in the South, but I think this song is just a great historical folk song of America, and there's no reason people shouldn't be able to appreciate it.

Lived in Texas and Tennessee for a few years working and coming from Canada I was treated so very well and loved the people and music. This tune is one of my favorites which reminds me of friends and the good people there who will always have a place in my heart for their kindness.

As a non-American, I love this song. Always have, always will.

Not American, but i love it. reminds me of my childhood hometown Birmingham. People who i went to school with, or were neighbors, all was just so nice. Best time in my life i tell ya. Nothing has gone over those 5 years i lived there.

Man, I'm a brown Indian living in US, a Dixie land where confederate flag fly so high, "where old ways are not forgotten" wouldn't have been nice for me. Having said that, this song is so addictive and is now stuck in my mind. I'm humming to it now.

The day Lee surrendered to Grant, as fireworks illuminated the victors in Washington, Lincoln was asked to speak. Instead, he asked the band on the White House lawn to play dixie.

Nothing wrong with pride of your southern heritage, whether you be black, white, brown etc. We should be proud of what weve overcome and became. God Bless Dixie.

Dixies were the $10 bill on the Bank of New Orleans before the war. The most common currency circulating in the southern states at the time when no national currency existed. The bill had Dix and Ten on the reverse, Dix being French.

I'm a Latino dude, families both got here in the 20th century from south of the border but we never lived in "the south". I like this song. its part of American History. I don't get why people get mad about it or why it's not taught in school. its catchy af.

When you're happy you enjoy the music.
When you're sad you understand the lyrics.

I remember when this was played along with the national anthem when the local TV stations signed off for the day.
