Показать описание
"Dixie", also known as "Dixie's Land", "I Wish I Was in Dixie" and other titles, is a song about the Southern United States first made in 1859. It is one of the most distinctively Southern musical products of the 19th century. It was not a folk song at its creation, but it has since entered the American folk vernacular. The song likely cemented the word "Dixie" in the American vocabulary as a nickname for the Southern U.S.

too many people are malding

The song predates the Civil War and the Confederacy, as it was a Folk song written by a Buckeye (Ohio resident). The song is still widely used today as a American Patriotic Song, mainly in Dixieland.

The flag is used as a symbol of Southern pride.

When the American expeditionary force arrived in Britain in 1918, shortly after the US joined WW1, the United States had no national anthem. The British army band sent to welcome them, therefore, was in a complete muddle as they didn’t know what song to play for the troops as they disembarked. Then their leader ordered the band to play Dixie because, and I quote, “It is the most American tune ever written.”

Shortly after the surrender of the Confederate General Robert E. Lee at Appomattox Courthouse in April of 1865, at the victory celebration in the White House, President Abraham Lincoln ordered the band to play "Dixie"!

There is an effort by racist, anti-southern activists to cancel out anything and everything the confederacy stood for and the history of its conflict with the north. One cannot deny what happened and history cannot or should be canceled--- Southern history is a fact-- and this song should forever be honored and played as a tribute to the men who fought for a cause they truly believed in.
