Now I can finally play this game safe in the knowledge that I will no longer lose my mamelukes to cannon galleons.

Just think: Mamelukes at one point were boats and archers.

The Mamelukes were my favorite unit 20 years ago. I just loved the sound of their attacks.

I think with Saracens getting Zealotry in Castle Age; Hindustani Imperial Camels getting the last armor upgrade, faster attack rate, but lower attack; and Gurjara camels getting a food cost discount with Kshatriyas and +4 armor with Frontier Guard and their +50% bonus damage, I think we need another competition to see who has the best camels in the game

This ought to be called the Dromedary Update

Noticed a funny bug: sheep ordered to garrison in a Gurjara mill cannot be claimed by any other player while they are en-route to the mill. Until this is patched, a quick player can steal sheep from opponents and order them to garrison in a mill, then watch their opponent impotently attempt to reclaim them with villagers, scout cavalry, etc. Works when garrisoning in your mill or an ally's mill

Saracens buff came just before Eid al-Fitr, one of our biggest holiday. Good omen!

Finally Mamelukes went back to being as good as they were in Post-Imperial Age of Conquerors

For context, back then there was a "bug" in AoC that gave Saracens a hidden unique technology called "Camelry", that gave Elite Mamelukes +25 Cavalry Armor, which effectively halved damage from Halberdiers. This tech was only available by playing with Saracens in Post-Imperial Age and was removed in The Forgotten

Also if you think it was broken, look at the top comments in this video

I think this is a good change for a ridiculously expensive unit. I still prefer regular camels but at least now they are better to use.

3:50 The mameluke have been suffering from skirmishes for the last “22” years.
LOL, it started with the birth of this game.

When I was 7 years younger I wrote a fantasy patch including the Mamelukes not suffering anti archer dmg. They have always been my favourite unit and now they are back finally. Best news of the dlc, I don't even need the new civs 11

Buffed after 20+ years. Totally amazing day!
Saraceans deserved this buff. Afterall their team bonus kinda sucks (cause very situational) 😂

Even as a kid playing the game back in the 90's, I found the mameluke's attack animation of throwing a scimitar to be ridiculous. :P

I always secretly hoped they'd give 'em a javelin or make them a melee attacker or mounted gunner like conquistador's. Or have 'em lob early hand grenades.

Dang it! Going Spanish cannon galleons vs Mamelukes was one of my favorite strats!

Pro tip: If you don't have the DLC and would like to try Gurjaras, play the Prithviraj campaing

Something I've been thinking about for awhile now with Saracens is a strategy built around proactively using the market, and making the most of their bonus not only to gain resources for yourself, but very specifically to try and hamper the enemy's access to a specific resource.

For example, trading early to drive the fair price of a specific resource way up (specifically a resource that the enemy team would be quite dependent on) and then playing the match around trying to deny the enemy's access to that resource as much as you can in Castle/early Imp - effectively forcing them to have to use the market more, at even lower returns than usual.

Given the boost to Mamelukes here, I'm thinking they could be a great raiding tool to try and hinder an enemy's economy as much as possible. I don't know how practical it would be, but I think it could be feasible in some situations (though slow to mass). Would really love to see someone at a higher level than myself try to brainstorm this, and see if it's actually viable!
