In which John Green teaches you, at long last, about the most exceptional bunch of empire-building nomads in the history of the world, the Mongols! How did the Mongols go from being a relatively small band of herders who occasionally engaged in some light hunting-gathering to being one of the most formidable fighting forces in the world? It turns out Genghis Khan was a pretty big part of it, but you probably already knew that. The more interesting questions might be, what kind of rulers were they, and what effect did their empire have on the world we know today? Find out, as John FINALLY teaches you about the Mongols.

If you think of it, the Mongols basically reinvented Europe.  Or at least, led to the events which reinvented Europe.

You can walk across the whole Mongol empire with a gold plate on your head without fear of getting robbed but, you can't live in your own hut without your wife getting stolen. How ironic. Lol

I find it hilarious that the Mongols tried to invade Japan but died in a typhoon twice. It's also pretty funny that they put dummies on horses so that their armies would look bigger from far away.

As much as I like people discussing the 'glory days' of Mongol Empire, I wish more people would talk more about modern day Mongolia. Living abroad and talking to international students made me realize Mongolia is much more peaceful, progressive, free, tolerant and "chill" than any other nation tbh. It'd be much cooler if others saw that aspect of Mongolia as well.
