Yes, the thrift stores in our area have increased prices to ridiculous amounts. They are trying to sell Dollar Tree items for $3 or more. That's crazy to charge more for it used than new. I've all but stopped going to thrift stores. The closest Habitat for Humanity store is always so picked over, and the only things left have been there for ages. Now I will ask on Facebook if a friend or family member has what I'm needing. I'd rather give them the money than pay triple the amount at the thrift stores.

The chain thrift stores have raised their prices a lot! I find that the small hospice thrift stores are best. However, if you shop the sale days you can still get bargains ( all red tags etc).
I haven't done this in awhile but the next county was a "rich people" county so their thrift stores had more upscale items. I used to buy my work outfits that way, especially at the end of the season.

Hi Kathryn,

I am known as the Button Girl and the Knob Girl. I worked at a mom and pop lumber yard for years and many closed in the early 1990s when the Home Depots came to my area of Northern Virginia. We had a large sale at our lumber yard that had been open since the 1930s receiving logs and wood from Maine on the train behind the mill. The last day that the lumber yard was open we started to give things away for free even to staff. Of the clerical staff I was the only one that raided the cabinet doors and knobs. I had a studio basement apt at the time but I had an F250 PU truck, my Dad was having a large addition put on his house and I grabbed things I thought he could use. No time to call and say hey do you want this go out and ask Joey (contractor). I grabbed cabinet doors that we made for a customer that never returned. I raided the knob bin as I had recently found a dresser on the curb that didn't have knobs. To this day (over 20 years ago) the dresser is next to my sewing machine with 8 free brass knobs from Murphy & Ames Lumber. I have more knobs and your mirrors on the walls for jewerly I may be doing.

My Dad himself after his addition was completed made his own built ins for all his artifacts from around the world he has collected from 1600BC tear cup collectors and wine glasses from the Queen Mary etc etc. On the bottom of the bookcase like built ins are the cabinet doors I took for free from the lumber yard. Get this, the yard crew had Makita and DeWalt drills and sanders still in their black cases never opened. Staff recd those I took one for myself (a drill) and one for my Dad. My brother came and took a jig saw for free. I was hoping to get the chop saw but someone beat me to it.

I am getting ready to buy my first house. My goal was to buy by the time I was 25 but I never made it. Now in my 50s I am finally able to. My papers are at the bank to see what I can be approved for and I have a nice amount saved. I love to sew, so curtains are covered there. I even make my own dust ruffles. I am happy to learn about these liquidators I shall Google it. I also have in the past donated wicker furniture to the Habitat Restore near me that I now kick myself for donating but, my storage unit went up very high. My new little place (I am hoping for) has a small patio.

I love your channel. I am up at 4:30 watching this because I have RLS very bad this week. I have a disabled leg but I fell last week on vacation and banged up my good leg. I was happy to see this video was so recent too so then you know what stores currently have at about the same time you posted.

Your one of my favorite YouTube personalities especially for crafts. I presently live in a 1940 historical building and I am not allowed to use nails or molly bolts so all my large art pieces are not hung. Your wire shelves gave me an idea to maybe find one and for now prop up on a table. I make all my earrings and I haven't a way to store them. I bet the fish hook style ones will hang nice on the racks.

Thank you for a great video. I came on to watch a video on how to make bags out of wrapping paper but I could not find it. I saw this and thought well, Kathryn is better than that! 🥰

Fondly,
Rebekah

I love Habit for Humanity shopping!! I found 5 crystal door knobs, paid about $4. I had some wood lying about, painted it and attached the knobs. It’s in my bathroom and we use it for towels and robes.

My husband works for a Habitat Re Store. This store is always busy and non stop donations. You can always find really good stuff . It is an awesome organization because the money goes back into the organization. Thrift stores are so over priced right now but there are a few that are still good.

I agree, the resale store prices have increased, just like everything else I suppose. Thanks for all the tips.❤️

Yes, the Thrift Stores that I donate to regularly have increased their prices drastically! It’s beyond ridiculous and unfair to the people that have no choice but to shop there but at the current prices, everyone is better off going directly to the retail stores and buy on sale. You also have several people that go in there to resell at market prices and that I believe has also caused increased prices.😐

The wine rack for water bottles is so ingenious! I paused the video and ran to the store

I’m glad you showcased my secret spot lol. I organize a lot as a side business. The bin store is my secret place. It’s really incredible. I did a two bedroom apartment for $300 on $4 day. 67 items. Honestly it was incredible how you can do a whole home.

Some baskets need liners and some don't. Often it's as much about what you want to keep in them. Baskets like the white wicker ones featured are great unlined for larger hard/smooth things but will tear up clothes without a liner. Best are the ones with liners that can be removed, laundered, and replaced with a little careful attention and those that have no points or rough edges to snag.

Asheville, NC here…even our Goodwill, and HFH, stores are way over priced….countless times I have found items with an original price tag still on them, and the thrift store has them priced way more than it cost originally, they do this with Dollar Tree items all the time!…I LOVE thrift shopping, and it has definitely taken the fun out it, and I rarely go anymore 😢
…love your energy, and thank you for always having a smile!

I have to say who ever routed the water lines under your Sink did a fantastic job ! Love that it is out of the way, giving you room for cabinet space. Thank You for making these inspiring videos ! Habitat for humanity stores are so awesome. Now I'm going to search for a liquidation store in my area, decluttering and refreshing my home. 😊

I agree with most thrift stores.
I'm lucky that I have a local ANIMAL HUMANE SOCIETY thrift store with very reasonable prices & ran by mostly Volunteers. ALL profits go directly to HELPING ANIMALS 🙏❤️

My first suggestion to friends that say "I never find anything." I always ask "how often do you go?" I find my treasures when I commit to going often. I live in a small town but have found diamonds in the rough when I go often. And this applies to Dollar Tree as well. Love your ideas! Jenny

Basket liners are to keep the basket easy to clean and for things to not fall through the holes 😃

I love the idea of liquidation stores having new stuff in boxes because people with small vehicles can still buy discounted items! Any big furniture from a thrift store needs at least a pickup truck, but the new stuff is all packed and assembled similarly to IKEA furniture. So it is very compact in the box and simple to assemble 😊

I think a lot of people might have missed the "basket condom" line, but I loved it. 👍😂😆😂😆
