I must give it up to you, Dr. Tara Tobias. You've cracked the code. Thank you for setting my spastic wrist and little finger free. Who knew the thumb was the main culprit and the key to unlocking the forearm, fist and halleluia, my fingers. Welcome chords! Goodbye staccato, hello legato, hammer-ons, bending and pull-offs. Release the sounds!
LOL, I wish, but I can see light ahead where there was none before. After 14 years i'm doing things I couldn't do at all. One of the long term goals I'd set post-stroke was to learn guitar. With left hand, arm and shoulder spasticity I pretty much had accepted it to be a worthy physical therapy pursuit albeit improbable goal, but over time tempering my expectations held promise that small achievements might lead to minor miracles. For me things like this aren't so much about restoring basic movements as they are about regaining honest to goodness normalcy, flow, and helping us to recapture some of the art and beauty in the symmetry of motion.
More importantly it's about our gestalt; how the world sees us as a whole person even though we know there are parts of us that forever shall remain dysfunctional. It's not enough to be almost functionally complete as long as there's the possibility that we could still have a chance to be exceptional, if only in some small way. This is how I see it anyway.
Thank you for this.

dr., what is your view on the usage of music glove as an aid for hand impairment as a result of a stroke?

Question: my hand closed and was surgically released and has been in a painful contracture for a decade now. Is it likely for my hand or wrist to break more easily? It cracks loudly and painfully when I gets caught in bedding or when slight pressure is applied. No pain meds work. It's crazy nerve pain.

I am nearing my wits and now. Apologies if I sound like a whiner but I would so love play my piano again

How do you get a program? Because my right arm is not working better than it should. Because my back makes it seem like the right side on my shoulder is higher than my left side.
