The doctors’ protest that started in Kolkata on Tuesday has spread across the country on the fourth day of the agitation. AIIMS Delhi, one of the critically important hospitals in the country, has joined the protest giving the agitation a huge impetus and bringing health services in the country capital to a stalemate. Several patients and their families were standing outside the AIIMS hospital in Delhi on Friday morning, waiting for the doctors to help them. Some said they have been told by the doctors to go somewhere else. Hospitals in Mumbai, Patna, Hyderabad, Trivandram, Jaipur and several other cities were affected by the massive agitation on Friday. The protests have snowballed after Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee refused to acknowledge the protests in Kolkata’s NRS Medical College and Hospital and threatened the doctors with severe action if they didn’t end the agitation at once. The protests still continue with greater intensity and it spreading with more and more hospitals and doctors joining the protests. It all started on Monday night when a 75-year-old patient at Kolkata’s NRS hospital died and his family alleged medical negligence. The family, accompanied by a 200-strong mob barged into the hospital and critically injured one of the doctors, Dr Paribaha Mukhopadhyay. Doctors have since been demanding action against the culprits and police protection for all doctors. Badges and black bands ...we are using since time immemorial for the protest ...but what had happened..??? Why there are no laws for the doctors safety..?? We govt. Doctor's work in hospital...and if that is destroyed by someone which is a govt. Property...why don't you arrest them ? Why don't you impose fine ? And take compensation for damage+ fine ..?? Why...??? Where is the Law and it's enforcement..?

If the government had taken responsibility, there would have been no need for the doctors across India to take this up. The young doctors who have faced violence at workplace-no one else is standing up for them, you mean they should be left alone? An old man of 82 years of age dying of heart attack. For not having saved the aged person's life, his family people & relatives throwing stones at duty doctors, many reported injured, even one Dr. dead. What is happening? Highly condemnable! This will play a big change in minds of Drs. in handling emergencies! Not good for patients in general!
