I've found that communicating with the customer during long waits at the restaurant, and adding some humor (I think they maybe be cooking your fries one at a time) has netted me the most after tips.

I find I get more tips when I send the customer a picture of me in a Speedo after I drop off their results may vary

I just got an extra $2 on a $5 tip yesterday and was surprised. Although I have gotten one before, I think this is better than pre tipping because what if the service sucks. That's why I take just about all orders within 5 miles of my home. You never know.

i have a great tip that works for me. I always use my insulated bag. especially at drop off. i get great tips when i have leave at door orders and i use the bag. i either take a picture with the food half out the bag. or take it out but keep bag in the picture. you can leave a note that’s says” kept your food nice and hot( or cold) in insulated bag! Make sure your bag has UBer Eats/Doordash on it!! Or whatever company it is. 😊 90 percent of time i get 10 to 25 dollars tips added.

Since I was reading replies, I didn’t really absorb a lot of what you said, so I’ll probably watch it later as I actually am about to go – an hour but I wanted to say I saw on somebody else’s channel that they leave the hot/cold bag next to the bag they delivered when they take the photo which I normally on zip it, and take it out of that bag which is in the trunk before I go to the door… unless it’s a few bags in which case I take both insulated bags and do it at the doorstep. But I assumed if they’re worried about it they probably have a camera and can’t see that I took it out of an insulated bag from the trunk.
Well ever since I saw that she does that I’ve done it a few times and I figure it can’t hurt. I don’t know if it increases tips so far (the only increased Tip I ever got I believe was from before I was doing that) any but even just for DoorDash to see I think it’s a good thing.

When I was new, I would text every customer my eta, & let them know if there was a delay like waiting on trains or drawbridge. I found out, most people don't want to hear from us at all. They want their food quick once it's ready. In many markets, the stackers means lukewarm or cold food. If you don't stack in those markets, your customer gets hot food, & before their lunch break is over. That's how to get add on & cash tips. Get it there quick, & shut up on the way.

In my experience the people just want their food everything you do extra everything you say extra just a waste of your time and a waste of your effort. You get them their food and say thank you have a good day and walk away. That's how you get the most tips. They don't want to know anything about you or the condition of the restaurant or the food they just want you to pick it up and bring it to their house.

I've made a couple of bad decisions the last few days as far as waiting for orders. Hindsight I should have unassigned them and keep on truckin. I've done this for a while and I still make these mistakes. Long wait time at the merchant are killers to your income.

Tips are about 50% of my income on average. I get great tips usually, and I have, on multiple occasions, gotten $3-$5 added tips from customers.

Two things I’ve noticed: it’s always a customer who already tipped more than $1, and usually it’s after the one’s that say “Wow that was fast!” And I’m like “I try to be!” 😂

Point is: drive like a speed demon and only accept orders with tips.

Meh, I'm polite and professional, but I don't do any of this extra stuff. I only communicate thru the app when the customer starts the conversation.

Tips are usually 70% of my earnings. This is a convenience service; just make things convenient and be conscientious. Too chatty is not good; a lot of my customers are paying me because they don't want to interact with people, and that includes me. If they start a conversation, fine; if they don't... it's a "no contact" delivery (that includes text and calls).

IMO, anyways... and that opinion pays me me and rates me quite well.

I find that I get more tips when I say, "Hello I'm Steph. I'll be picking up and delivering your order in the way you've requested as soon as possible. Thank you" each time. Most don't change, but often they are thankful and sometimes pleasantly surprised. I have gotten several after the delivery tips, but not enough to quit my day job (whoops too late 😅)

I accidentally winked at a cute girl who I handed the order to. Just reflexively did it and I’m pretty sure she was offended. but I pulled the whole, “aww man something just flew into my eye”. Her defense turned into slight concern then I went with the. “that was a close one, you are my hero today”. I got an extra 10 dollars from that order. I don’t recommend ever doing that, but being friendly is a habit. Start with the merchant and your likely to bring that same energy to delivery.
