Sunak announces 'Atlantic Declaration' to boost UK-US ties after Biden talks | ITV News

Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has signed an agreement with US President Joe Biden to deepen ties in a bid to protect both countries from economic shocks, like Russia driving up the price of energy.

The Atlantic Declaration could pave the way for British defence companies to access American investment, allow data sharing and recognise professional qualifications in critical industries.

But it falls short of the full free trade deal promised in the Conservative Party's 2019 manifesto, with Mr Sunak admitting that is no longer a priority for him.

Deputy Political Editor Anushka Asthana reports live.

For all the negative things that happen within USA (super expensive healthcare, monsantos, CIA level type of monitoring) I hope that wont have a knock on effect on us in the UK and this boost to ties is more of a political thing for show.

Obama indicated at the time that Brexit was a mistake and the UK would be at the back of the line regarding a free trade agreement with the US. This was the best arrangement to be had at the present.

Now what have we given away ? And what is it going to cost us ? ‘Cos that is the very least we can expect to face one out of this closer economic co-operation. . Political camouflage language for who yet knows what is not in our favour . Note it allows America to invest in our Companies particularly defence & technology ! Areas where America notably does not give away its secrets

The 'Special Relationship' just got shored up, NOT reinforced. But this does confirm the UK as Junior Partner.
