Bobby Ocean says it all as he plays the Beach Boys. "The sound of Southern California." And 93 KHJ was. Eventhough by this time, the competition was banging on their door, and AM Top 40 was slowing fading away. But that doesn't take away from the powerhouse 93 KHJ was for so many in SoCal during their wonder years.
Here's another aircheck of Bobby "What-a-Guy" Ocean as a soild disc jockey on KHJ in 1979.

Hey, Maverick! Really enjoying the airchecks and glad you're sharing them on YouTube. Quick note on this one---it's 1979, not 1977. The "Radio and Records" promotion was tied to the 1979 R&R convention at the Century Plaza Hotel. This is from around that time (first week of March, 1979). John Sebastian is out as PD, Chuck Martin is in and the only jingles Chuck thought would work until he could get new ones cut were the 1971 Drake AA ("Motown") package (the ID at about 1:20).

Chuck was heavying up on gold and recurrent to come back out of the album-style presentation under Sebastian, so the only current heard on this is Dire Straits "Sultans of Swing" (as it fades at 1:37).
