"You need to stop drinking" -- family member, as they give the alcoholic a bottle of Hennessy to wash down the everclear.

I was binge-watching this show recently and had to take a break. So frustrating. And the family who say "well they get mean if I don't bring it" well just leave the room, what're they gonna do? Chase you?

I'm not a native English speaker and I've literally learned the word "enabler" through this show 😅 I find the cognitive dissonance or the overall mental processes of enablers actually fascinating. I don't like to think that people don't understand the consequences of this kind of actions and I'd be really interested in understanding why they mis-help their beloved ones to this extent.

As an obese woman who started out this year at 257 lbs, but is currently down to 189 lbs, I can't stand watching my 600lb life. I could never imagine eating so much that I got that size. I never had a food addiction, I just made very poor choices.

Me here barely wanting to eat more than one meal a day because grocery shopping is EXPENSIVE wondering how TF people can even afford getting that big 😳

The enablers need to be hospitalized and treated for whatever mental thing is going on with them that makes them want to keep her dependent.

I watch the show sometimes, and often wonder how these people have a house, a car in some cases, and an endless supply of food. I’m busting my ass working full time and I don’t own a house, a car, and grocery prices are absurd. 😵

Also my girlfriend does a hilarious impression of Dr. Now 😂

It's the path of least resistance, which is what traumatized people do. The family is simply keeping their family member 'happy' for now. I guarantee you, they enable because she's an unending trauma terror when she doesn't get her addictive substance (carb rich food).

My dad is like this, not this size, but he is headed there. Every day is fight when I won't buy junk food or absurd amounts of food. It got to the point where we stay is different sides of the house and there are days where we don't talk.
He is weak willed and knows it, the type that is sure there is a ''miracle'' pill somewhere that will magically help.
It's hard to watch, but after years of non stop fighting it's at the point of ''fuck it! it's your life''
I am glad that the overall depression in the house has been resolved this year. You have no idea of the mental turmoil you go through seeing the house get dirtier and you are just too emotionally drained from fighting to do anything. It felt like this issue just got everyone in the house in a depression that was slowly killing us all.
It's impossible to understand the weight it puts on everyone, not just the one that is this size, unless you are actually in that situation. And to think i binged watched that show

“I’m a picky eater.”

“You are not a picky eater if you’re 600 pounds.”

The fact that the family does nothing about it is even worst .

There's a reason people this size don't live long. I've yet to see anyone this size in their 80s or 90s.

The family or spouse or friend etc taking care of the large person always say "I give them what they want or they get mad and throw a fit and throw stuff and cuss me LET THEM, it is probably the most exercise they would get that day.

My family and I have a pact with each other...if we ever find ourselves so overweight that we cannot get up to get our own food...we all agree to leave us sitting where we are and then throw an apple, some lettuce, and bottled water to us to keep us alive while losing weight. We all agree that we are not going to indulge the other one in life-ending eating habits. If we each want to walk our overweight fannies to get our OWN food...so be it...but we are not roping the other relatives into our binge-eating death spiraling ways. It's not fair to the others around us.

My mom has always complained about her weight while eating out of boredom or to not waste food. I understand where she’s coming from & she doesn’t believe she’ll feel full without her typical amounts of carbs. (Carbs are not the enemy btw)
She had ankle surgery & primarily relied on me for food. She still had her fav pan dulce & tortillas but her plate was also filled with her fav veggies. Still had our lazy days where we ordered pizza, other family members would occasionally delivered whatever she requested. She went from 235 to 198 but then she healed up & was able to make whatever she wanted & is back to 220ish. I do still see her trying to limit excessive carbs so at least she learned that she can do it & even requests I cook for her occasionally. ❤

Its even worse when the person wants to lose weight and make changes but the people around them do nothing but encourage them to keep their bad food and eating habits. Ive seen more a few where the relationship ended because the partner was trying to sabotage them.

It is important to remember that many of these people have had some sort of trauma in their life, many were abandoned as children by a parent, or were victims of SA, so it’s easy to think they’re just being lazy. There are some that have not, but food addiction is difficult to overcome because unlike a substance addiction, they have to continue to eat to survive.
