How to repair a tubeless tyre with a plug: Pro tips for fast and mess-free repairs on the go

Tubeless tyres are still relative newcomers to cycling, but the appeal is obvious, as they bring many benefits.

They not only offer less rolling resistance and weight, but more grip and comfort (as they can be used at lower pressure) too. Plus, when used in conjunction with sealant they can also often instantaneously fix flats on the fly.

However, if you're unlucky and a hole in the tyre is too large for the sealant to cope with, then a tubeless plug is all that's needed for a super quick, efficient and mess-free fix. You'll be back on your bike and riding in no time, which is especially good for racing situations.

Follow our easy guide to using a tyre plug for a super fast fix.

4:25 I found it to be the exact opposite, easier to plug it when no air, and it's a better idea to go at an angle rather than vertical so you don't get the tape

Thanks for the tips. My new Cannondale Scalpel came with a Dynaplug kit so I was wondering about the procedure versus using the Innovations bacon strips.

I had a screw go through my tire and the sealant sealed around it without me noticing anything. I was stopped at traffic lights and a cyclist behind me spotted it and told me. It's been in there for 5 days now not a problem

This video reminds me that I must top up my sealant.

on the gravel tire, if the hole is bigger for one dart, can you use two in one spot?

One question: The plug tip is left inside the tyre isn't it ? Wouldn't that be dangerous as it could potentially puncture the inner sealant tape on the rim?

hello sir can you plug this into a tubeless "road" tire when stranded on the road if the sealant can seal a hole larger than 4 mm? and i would carry a C02 and this....my tire size is 28 road tire please let me know

as far as getting the tool out quickly when the example was road bike, that's not likely.... The scenario will be you'll feel the tire flat or hear a puncture, and yell flat... Then pull over, unclip totally and take unzip your tool kit, then rummage for the tool, then open the cap, then try to insert it.. That's about 4 min, and the tire will be deflated by then.

The thing is, must punctures are not perfect holes in a tyre.

Better yet … just use tubed tires/wheels and you won’t have to be concerned
