Salvation is by faith alone, but faith is never alone, it always has "works" which follow it. That's why God can judge us on the basis of our works; because our works flow out of our faith in Christ. The first thing that makes a "work" acceptable in God's eyes is our “patient continuance in well doing.” That is, it is done with cheerful endurance, consistency and perseverance in the things of God. The second thing which makes a "work" acceptable in God's eyes is the direction that the work is seeking for glory, honor, peace and immortality.

Salvation is not of works. A saved person who does works earns a reward in heaven (1 Corinthians 3). Salvation itself is not of works (Romans 4).

If we are not doing good works then who is? Even the good works done by unsaved people are as filthy rags and they dont count since they are still dead in sin. If it isnt for Christ, its not good. All is about Jesus.
