Former public school

My kids are homeschooled

I have changed my homeschool curriculum about three times and I’ve only been homeschooling two years. It’s a blessing to be able to find what works for my child.

We started homeschooling this year and so far we love it!! We can plan our day and participate in activities, eat a healthy meal at home, etc. Never going back!

Homeschooling is amazing. I was homeschooled from preschool through 12th grade. We spent probably only half the time on school that public schoolers did, but we actually learned something. Now I’m in college working on both my associates and bachelors degrees in nursing at the same time, and I have a 4.0 GPA in both programs. I’m in two nursing honors societies and I’m president of one of them. I also have a lot of friends that share my values and that I can depend on. I don’t say all this to talk myself up or belittle public schoolers. I actually don’t think I’m above average at all. I just think I was privileged enough to get above average schooling. So if anyone is out there who is wanting to homeschool, or is afraid their kids will be behind (people told my mom that all the time). It is NOT true. Your children will thrive! If you are unable to homeschool though don’t beat yourself up, just invest the time you can in helping them thrive academically, and and try to build social circles outside of public schools that share more moral values with your family

The hardest parts are initial reading, writing, and math. Once you get through that, everything else just flows. And it's at the speed that your child needs it.

If my wife and I didn’t have to work, we would home school. We had to pull one daughter out because of bullying and chaos in the classroom. She’s going to a Christian school and it’s wonderful but expensive for us. My other daughter a 4th grader, just had a boy come to school with a pistol and 67 rounds of ammo. Thankfully he sent kids messages and told them he was bringing a gun, so the cops stopped him before he could do anything. We are pulling her out and sending her to the Christian school as well. It’s sad that a struggling middle class family has to pay for 2 kids tuition to private schools, because public schools have become so bad.

Homeschooling is much better than public school. You don't have to worry about your child being indoctrination when you school them at home..😊

Homeschool can be wonderful. I wanted to homeschool but my oldest is very adamant about going to school so we're trying it out. I personally loved and thrived in public school. It's not a one size fits all, but it definitely fits some.

Kids don't even socialize all that much in school

As someone homeschooled in the 1980's when there was tremendous opposition, I can tell you the whole socialization aspect of public school is overrated. I went to public school from 9th to 12th grade. I learned that public school wasted a lot of time, it was too easy, and there were a lot of crazy people.

Love it! Exactly. Reminds me of the cartoon, bringing branches to school, and them coming out toothpicks.

Homeschooling done right is better for kids than public or private schooling because if you do it right they actually learn real world skills and social interaction by watching there parents interact.

Exactly. We homeschooled until age 6, my son is in half days now at a Christian school. It’s fun for him but I am sorry to say that in Canada the class sizes are out of control and the teachers can not teach effectively to this age group. I’ve kept our homeschool curriculum and routine and that’s how my son learns 🤦🏻‍♀️. At home not at school.

We should be "interested" for life. It becomes skills and we feel better and maybe makes money. "The official way" is still a plot somehow.

Public school is what you make it. By fourth grade they have already identified the gifted kids and separated them from the rest of the pack. High achieving students require healthy academic competition from their peers. Cultivate a love of reading with your child from ages 0-5 and you won’t need to move the goalposts by customizing a homeschool curriculum for them to succeed.

All the points that public education doesn't get. Public education is a jail and failure training for kids.
