Good illustration of the difference between the two relationships.

Even so, this is UI design problem for Serif that deserves more attention. Both the clipping and clipped relationships look the same in the layers palette. Only a small difference in indentation.

Once you learn it, you can move forward, but it's not intuitive or clear, even to those who know.
