I believe you nailed it. Lucas thought he could trust Kennedy and the folks at Disney but that was a massive mistake. Kennedy has never been a Star Wars fan and her driving purpose was to make herself famous so she would be remembered with the likes of Lucas, Spielberg, etc. That of course will never happen; it's a tragedy she all but wrecked Star Wars in the process.

When Kennedy publicly made the statement.."We don't owe Lucas anything for Star Wars" That sums up what is WRONG with Star Wars now under Disney. 😡

"The main thing is to protect these characters and make sure they still continued to live in a way that you created them and that the universe of Star Wars can continues to grow."

Biggest lie she's ever told and an absolute backstab to George Lucas. They did the total opposite of "protecting these characters" and "continue to grow".

I think Kathy's statement when asked if she liked Star Wars was pretty revealing of her motives. She didn't take the helm because she was a fan wanting to do Star Wars right, she took it because she wanted the power and prestige of being the woman behind Star Wars and Lucasfilm. Some people want to create art and beauty -- Lucas certainly succeeded in that. Some only want to gain power. And that, I think, is the big difference between the two.

That clip of rian johnson wanting to make a divisive movie is kinda hilarious. He made a movie, got the exact reaction he wanted...and then got really mad about it

You don't need to be a fan of these legacy franchises. You just need to respect them and their fans. And for the life of me I have no idea why people who openly hate on these franchises and show contempt for the fan base are being put in charge.

It's absolutely heartbreaking to think of what they did to George. He sells his company off to someone he thought he could trust. Leaves behind story ideas and actively wanted to be a consultant on those films. Then his ideas are thrown out in favor of just repeating what he had done before, which is the thing that he hated the most about Hollywood. The endless and shameless cash grabs sequel reboot movies they pump out. George always tried to tell his story and try to do something brand new with each film he made. Such a shame that he had to watch from the outside as Star Wars became the very thing he swore to destroy

This actually hurts. I know it’s small beans compared to so many of the problems in the world today, but she flat out lied to Lucas. And then her and her goons have the nerve to attack anyone who may have had issues with what they did to our beloved characters.

Kathleen Kennedy really betrayed George. What a duplicitious individual. Telling him everything would be safe and respected with her, and then meanwhile planning to totally undermine him and what he creatred. Seriously, it is pretty disgusting to watch.

George was afraid that a (trade) corporation would ruin his characters by diluting the quality for profit. He made the mistake of trusting his Star Wars universe to a wolf in sheep’s clothing who betrayed his good faith and seized control of the galaxy, using it to further her own political interests…. it’s basically the plot of Ep 1 and 2 and the splitting of the fan base is pretty much the Clone Wars.

Handing the legacy to KK was like handing the keys to a child who has always hated you.

For the life of me, I do not understand how a multi million dollar company makes a movie trilogy with absolutely no road map, no planning whatsoever.

Kennedy’s only stipulation for the sequels was that they be centred around a young female jedi, which seemed fair enough, but I get the impression she didn’t really care much about the story or the other characters beyond Rey.

Finn’s story had so much potential, but was continually squandered, perhaps because the filmmakers knew (consciously or unconsciously) that it might prove more interesting than Rey’s vague, sort of nothingy origin story. Boyega was definitely on to something when he complained about Disney/Lucasfilm giving all the focus to Rey.

Only true Star Wars fans will understand how heartbreaking this whole thing was.

I wonder what George honestly thinks about all of this. It hurts to see him in these clips, and how much he was betrayed.

Knowing KK studied film actually makes her story make a lot of sense to me. She likely always wanted to be a filmmaker but never got her chance, so she uses her position now to do what she always wanted, tell her own stories. Unfortunately she seems to have never grown past the cringe fanfiction phase of her abilities, so we get stuck with what we got. The things that don't have any connection to her, seem to be the most successful, The Madalorian (S1 since it gets progressively worse the more she is involved), Visions and Andor. I doubt that's a coincidence. I also think there is a little resentment towards George and Spielberg because she was basically a coffee girl for them.

Kathleen Kennedy’s answer on Star Wars is pretty much what Hansel says about Sting in Zoolander.

“Sting. Sting would be another person who's a hero. The music he's created over the years, I don't really listen to it, but the fact that he's making it, I respect that.”

I wish I had the talent to make a documentary about this disaster. I hope someone does in the future. This story needs to be preserved as a warning and roadmap for any would-be franchise.

I don’t think the scariest part is that she set out to destroy SW, but that she is completely clueless that she did or is.

I had tears in my eyes by the end of this....They took something I had so deeply cherished for nearly two decades and altered (destroyed) it beyond recognition. I never would have imagined myself falling out of love with Star Wars. Interests would come and go, but Star Wars was the only thing that would stay, and the only thing next to music I'd feel genuine passion for in my shitty life. Yet here I am today...with nothing but grief and not an ounce of the love and excitement I used to feel for this franchise. RIP Star Wars....
