What Happened To The Empire After Emperor Palpatine Died? Star Wars Imperial Remnants Explained

Following Emperor Palpatine’s death at the hands of Darth Vader on the second Death Star, the Galactic Empire began to quickly fall apart.

The New Republic stepped into the role of galactic government, but it was the infighting that broke down the Empire so quickly. As a result of the continuous conflicts for control, the Empire was no longer strong enough to challenge the unified front of the New Republic.

Let's take a look at the Battle of Endor, the Battle of Jakku and beyond in Star Wars canon.

Always hated how Disney made the empire collapse so quickly. It took 15 years after endor for the empire to raise the white flag but here it was done in about a year. With the empires size and resources no way it could collapse so quickly.

It would be really neat if you covered the legend’s version in a separate video. Maybe you have but this is the first video of yours I’ve seen and it’s got good quality production for s channel this size, you’d think I was watching Eck, or some other channel with 400k subs, Keep up the great work!

I do feel the legends version of the Galactic civil war, and then the warlord era is so much more interesting. Palps at Byss being his time to strike out during the dark empire era, but before that we get to see the New Republic conduct their offensive in the southern reaches and the mid rim and then the core. As the empires forces fractured states like the Pentastar Alignment, Empire of the Hand (Thrawns empire he was working on for Palps before his death at endor.
Even Zyinj’s empire became the largest imperial successor state for a time. We also get a good look at the empire’s government changing hands many times, from the ISB Director Issard taking control of the empire for a time before she kicks the bucket. Next up was Thrawn, who would unfortunately not receive proper support from the other warlords, and thus leading to his defeat and death at Bilbringi shipyards. After him would come Capitan Pelleon, thrawns number 2. But surprise Palps is back and ready for vengeance, doing a total sweep of the core before his final defeat, with control of the empire going over to Admiral Dahllia, and Pelleon. Then FINALLY with Pelleon taking the now battered, and severally under strengthened empires forces on one last offensive against the new republic (against his will due to the council of Moffs wanting to keep the war going.) While not overly successful his offensive showed the new republic the empire was toothless and still had some bite. This would give the empire somewhat better terms when they signed the “Pelleon Gaverson Treaty.” Named after then leader of the empire, and chancellor of the new republic.

Alrighty that was a lot of typing and I condensed about 14ish years of lore into a short read.

Legends feels so much more fleshed out, I mean if you want specifics you can ready about the New Republics 2nd Fleet and their offensives against the Ereadu Authority (another warlord state) or the core offensives and the breaking of the first imperial defenses at Denon opening up the core for liberation. So so much to touch on, but maybe it could make s good lore series for the channel at some point.

Now I don’t dislike the new canonical version of how the war ended, but it works. It’s neat, 5/10 could be better, but could be worse. Disney did an okay job with it. Luckily it seems as of now Disney is pulling more from the old material, and with our blue boy back in the fight who knows. Also FOR THE LOVE OF GOD DISNEY PUT PUT ACKBAR IN THE SPOTLIGHT! Hera is great, one of my favorite characters, but um… she’s not s good commander. I said it, sorry, every time we’ve seen her lead an Opperation it’s gone poorly.

Season 2 of rebels her plan to break the imperial blockade of some world didn’t work until they got help, season 3 finale… can’t really blame her, in fact poor showmanship on most rebel leadership in that battle. Season 4 hee squadron of X-wings gets defeated during the strike on the factory.

If she is to fight thrawn in season 2 of Ashoka the New Republic is doomed. Ackbar while not being equal to Thrawn would certainly be the most dangerous opponent to him.

So Imperial succession was like:
1. Palpatine
2. Amedda (de iure / proxy)
// Rax (de facto / “in all but name”)
3. Amedda II (but signed Galactic Concordance killing the Empire)
// Vacuum
4. Palpatine II

Lucas films has nothing to do with Star Wars these days, it’s Disney running things and not all that well either

I Refuse to subscribe to the ridiculous Disney timeline. What happened in the E.U. is what happened. And Vader's flagship wasn't the Ex-e-cutor. It was the Ex-ec-u-tor. Like the executor of someone's will.
