Today on Modern Builds, I'll show you how to make a mid century inspired side table / nightstand / end table from a couple of Maple 1x8's. The goal with this project was to build a relatively simple DIY project that looks a lot more complicated than it really is to build. The cool thing about it: I made every cut for this project with my Ryobi circular saw! The written step by step plans are available at RyobiNation, link below.

the level of sloppiness, lack of tools and end result destroyed all my excuses for not doing my nightstand project. You are insane! <3

God damn, that leather handle is an amazing finishing touch. It's so simple but looks great on its own and really ties the piece together.

This looks great. I'm always impressed with what you are able to accomplish without tens of thousands of dollars worth of tools. Very inspirational.

Love this! As a guy just starting out with this sort of DIY, I really appreciate you making a project with more basic and affordable tools. Definitely gonna try this!

Mike, can you show us where you put all of these amazing projects after you finish them? I would imagine that you have a pretty slick house/apt at this point!

I dig projects like this, I have all these tools myself and the project turned out well. I think you appeal to a larger audience when. You do this and you make wood working seem more affordable and attainable. I know you have skills to do something fancier, but a lot more people can identify with a project like this.

Definitely going to try to make this with my dad for my room! What I would try to make is two tables (different hights) so that they could "slide" under eachother, but not fully. In that way I have two tables that I can use.
Btw, love your videos! So fun to watch with my dad who is a carpenter that makes furniture. Gives him loads of inspiration and tips and tricks!!:)

Cool simple project :) and it's nice to see a builder that admit and shows his/her failures and learn from it

Impressive what you can build with a circular saw! Great project mike! You think about everything, to the pocket holes facing the back of the table, and also love the simple plywood track.

I'm about to make 2 of these soon. I already made the mid-century modern tv stand on your channel but added my own flavor. I gotta say I am in love with the piece and this piece with the tv stand is going to be fire! Thanks Mike!

Despite the joint snafu, looks really cool! Agree that the dowels are a great contrast!

Great video! I love how you run into issues like I do like not having masking tape and used dowels to reinforce a not so perfect miter which is always my issue! Thanks for a great video!

A tip on the miters that I never knew until recently: cut slightly over 45 deg by about 0.5 deg. This will ensure that the outside edges touch at the corners.

Who needs expensive tools and immaculate work shops! Well designed and executed. We can all remember out first days with few tools and limited abilities: but look at us now!

Cut your miters at 44.9° and you'll have a lot better luck with the outside corner touching.

Really cool making it all with a circular saw. And I like how the leather draw pull turned out. Very cool
