when suffering feels all-consuming, you need to hear this book quote 📚

"Someone who drowns in 7 feet of water is just as dead as someone who drowns in 20 feet of water. Stop comparing traumas, stop belittling yours or anyone else’s traumas just because it wasn’t 'as bad' as someone else’s. This isn’t a competition. We all deserve support & recovery."

My uncle once told me, when I was upset at myself for being depressed when I have such a good life, "The world is fundamentally unfair, and the only justice is that everyone feels sadness." I don't think anything has ever changed my thinking so swiftly and completely

"I understood how a man who has nothing left in the world still may know bliss, be it only for a brief moment, in the contemplation of his beloved" Viktor was gifted 💘

The "someone always has it worse" thing really hits, because one of my friends is like that. No matter what someone else is going through, she completely ignores their feelings and starts talking about herself and how that exact thing is happening to her, but soooo much worse

One of the worst, saddest, most disabling things you can believe is that because someone else's suffering is "worse", yours doesn't matter.

My mind went musing over the nice analogy, the wisdom, then stumbled on the oxymoron of 'absolutely relative'.

I have been severely ill for most of my life and so often when friends are talking to me about their own suffering they say “sorry I know it’s nothing compared to what you are dealing with” and every time I say exactly this! Pain is relative, your worst day and my worst day are both crummy awful days regardless of circumstance and we both deserve support and comfort!!!

I heard this recently: telling someone not to be sad because it could be worse is like telling someone not to be happy because it could be better.

It's sad that a lot of people think they're overreacting or being told that they're overreacting because "someone has it worse". Remember, what hurts, hurts. No matter big or small.

Just compare the opposite.
Tell the person to remember their happiest moment. Then tell them they're not allowed to feel happy about that because someone somewhere was way happier once.

It's bullshit.

Telling someone they shouldn't be sad cos people have it worse is like saying they shouldn't be happy cos there are happier people out there

I love how some quotes just leave you speechless because they just describe perfectly what you always felt but never had the words for

In a simpler way : No matter whether you are sinking 5 or 10 meters under the surface, you are still sinking

The worst thing that’s ever happened to you is the worst thing that’s ever happened to you. Meaning your worst thing might not seem as bad as someone’s else’s worse thing but they both feel the same to both people because it’s the worst thing both have experienced.

I needed this today. I've been bottling up my grief...my dad died at the end of this month 8 years ago. Because it's that time of year it's been on my mind so much and I feel so down. Im desperate to tell my partner how I'm feeling but I just can't get the words out. I feel like he won't understand as he hasn't lost anyone that close to him. Ive been bottling it up so much that when I went to visit my mum today I burst out into tears. I don't understand how the words can be on the tip of my tongue but won't come out. I've tried dropping hints about why I feel sad but he's not picking up on them. Im pregnant and it's hurting me so much that my dad will never meet his grandson. I just wish I could talk to my partner about how I'm feeling

i always say “whether you’re in 5 feet or water of 5, 000 you are still drowning” i don’t know where this is from but i love it

Was I the only one that expected a second part that would mention, when not letting the gas out the pressure will build and eventually either explode or implode the entire soul?

I also like the analogy about a man drowning in an ocean and in a pool. Pool is much smaller than am ocean, yet both are drowned

My rebuttal to that is "Someone's always got it better so stop being happy"

Let’s not forget that Frankl quoted the incredible Dostoevsky’s “There is only one thing that I dread: not to be worthy of my suffering”
